These volunteers are being recognized for their contributions to the Centre County community

Editor’s note: Each year, the Centre County Council for Human Services honors volunteers who work to further the mission of CCCHS’ member agencies. The Rose Cologne Volunteer Recognition is named after the first recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award.

According to Oxford Languages, a volunteer is “a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task.” If we reflect back on history, successful business models and noteworthy causes, its likely volunteers were leading the charge in some way. It’s because those individuals chose to undertake a task because they felt passionate about the cause and believed they could make a difference.

Volunteers who have given their time and talents to the human service organizations of Centre County are no exception. Without a doubt, the volunteers who willingly and consistently “show up” for our organizations have helped our community members in countless ways. Because of the work of volunteers, our neighbors in Centre County have been able to access food, housing and health care when they needed it most. They have helped social entrepreneurship blossom in our area and have provided valuable resources to our community from birth to end-of-life care.

At the Centre County Council for Human Services, we are honored to carry out the tradition of the Rose Cologne Volunteer Recognition event. We understand the value of volunteer hours and we are proud to be part of a community with such dedicated volunteers. Thank you!

Melissa Bottorf, CCCHS president
