Volunteers gather in a Pittsburgh park to plant 100 trees for Earth Day weekend

A park in Pittsburgh received 100 new trees from a group of volunteers who wanted to celebrate Earth Day weekend, respond to climate change and help restore forests.

ASEZ WAO and Tree Pittsburgh volunteers teamed up to plant the trees at Riverview Park in Perry North.

The planting was part of an international effort to plant 7 billion trees worldwide.

“If there’s something wrong at your home, you fix it because that’s your family. You love them. So it’s the same with global village, we have love we can share by taking care of the Earth,” said Chanequa Grant, an ASEZ WAO volunteer.

The goal of the project is to reduce greenhouse gases and cope with climate change. The group picked 7 billion trees because it matches the number of people in the world.

ASEZ WAO is a Church of God global volunteer group made up of young professionals from more than 7,500 churches in 175 countries. They have a local church in West View.

So far, 6,839 trees have been planted throughout 14 countries.
