Volunteers needed to help complete Escambia, Santa Rosa homeless population count Monday

Opening Doors of Northwest Florida will complete its annual point-in-time homeless count Monday but is in need of about 50 more volunteers to help take surveys of the homeless population.

The annual count is part of a national census and survey of the homeless population to find out what portion are families, youth, veterans and living with disabilities, as well as where they stay and what resources they use.

Volunteers will be stationed at meal sites, day shelters, street corners and camps to complete the surveys.

All volunteers are paired with a team leader and assigned to a location throughout the day Monday in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Volunteers need to be at least 18 years old and need to be able to fill out written survey documents and have reliable transportation to get to the field locations.

Training is provided to equip volunteers with an overview of the program, as well as safety and COVID-19 precautions.

Volunteers can sign up through Opening Doors' sign-up form online that is also available on the Opening Doors of Northwest Florida website at openingdoorsnwfl.org.
