Volunteers needed at local non-profits

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Are you still looking for a New Year’s resolution? Consider giving back to your community by donating time to a local non-profit. Many local organizations are looking for volunteers as the winter months continue.

Contact information and links to find out more about volunteering at all the non-profits listed in this article can be found at the bottom of the article.

Ahead of the opening of its new Monument View Medical Plaza and James Pulsiper Regional Cancer Center, Community Hospital is looking to expand its volunteer team. Christina O’Dell, director of volunteer services at Community Hospital, told WesternSlopeNow they’re looking to hire another 20 to 25 volunteers, mostly in the guest relations department. “Our guest relations volunteers greet our patients as they arrive and help them get where they’re going throughout the building,” said O’Dell.

These volunteers help put the ‘community’ in Community Hospital.

As you can imagine most people that are coming to the hospital it’s not on their best day ever. They can be anxious, nervous and really we want to make sure they are getting where they need to go and kind of decrease their stress right from the beginning.

Meals on Wheels of Mesa County is also looking for more volunteers this winter. The director of the Mesa County branch, Amanda De Bock told WesternSlopeNow, while they always need more drivers, volunteers can do more than deliver meals. You can volunteer to help with office work, cook and seal meals for delivery, and make phone calls to check in on people in the program.

In the same building, The Food Bank of the Rockies is also looking for volunteers. The food bank is looking for volunteers to help with its mobile pantries, its food dehydrator program, and its warehouse packing and stocking food.
