Volunteers stepped up to honor service men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Hundreds of American flags were placed in the West Newton Cemetery on Saturday to honor dead veterans.

The volunteer placed 385 full-sized flags in the cemetery and about 3,200 smaller ones.

The full-sized flags line the lane connecting Vernon Drive to the entrance of West Newton Cemetery.

“Each flag has a plaque on it that is dedicated to a veteran,” said Patrick Donohoe with West Newton Avenue of Flags.

The flags are being placed ahead of Memorial Day and will stay up through June 3.
