Volusia-Flagler-St. Johns High School Athlete of the Week poll: Dec. 12

The polls are open!

It's time to vote for the Volusia-Flagler-St. Johns Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 5-10. Athletes for all in-season sports are eligible.

Last week, Tocoi Creek wrestler Willie Sims took home the honor, claiming 50% of the votes.

The News-Journal and Record gather nominees from scores and stats emailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across the area. Coaches can email nominees to sports@news-jrnl.com.

Voting begins each Monday and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALLRocky Yocam hired Doug Stanley, and the rest is history for Mainland Bucs

Basketball

Nevaeh Barbary, University: The junior led the Titans to wins with 25 points against Atlantic and 15 against Pine Ridge.

Royce Egger, University: Egger scored 62 total points and dished out 15 assists over a three-game stretch.

Elijah Laird, Pine Ridge: The junior went off for 22 points and seven rebounds against University and 37 points and 10 rebounds against Deltona.

Soccer

Rami Amiri, Flagler Palm Coast: Amiri, a freshman, notched two goals in a 5-1 win over Palatka.

Brianna Chesley, Seabreeze: Chesley recorded three goals and an assist in a win over DeLand and tacked on two more goals and an assist in a 5-0 victory over Spruce Creek.

Sophia Magdalein, Bartram Trail: The senior had two goals and one assist in a 6-1 victory over Beachside.

Ana Whitehouse, St. Joseph: Whitehouse put in all five of the Flashes' goals in their 5-3 win over St. Johns Classical Academy.

Wrestling

Kevin Kerns, Deltona: The senior went 5-0 with five pins at the Deltona Duals.

Justin Umali, Creekside: In a dual against Nease, Umali remained undefeated on the season (10-0 with six pins, one technical fall and one decision).

Cheyenne Wigley, Mainland: Wigley did not give up a single point en route to a 3-0 week with three first-period pins.
