Volusia-Flagler-St. Johns High School Athlete of the Week poll: Jan. 18

The polls are open!

It's time to vote for the Volusia-Flagler-St. Johns Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 10-15. All in-season sports will be eligible.

The News-Journal and Record gather nominees from scores and stats e-mailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across the area. Coaches can email nominees to sports@news-jrnl.com.

Voting begins each Monday and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday. Due to the holiday on Monday, this week's poll will close on Friday for this week only. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.

Five Star roundup: Seabreeze, Spruce Creek win soccer Five Star tournament, but which players stood out?

Wrestling

Kaden Golder, Mainland: He went 5-0 at Fernandina Beach last weekend with two technical falls (win by 15) and a win over a returning state-placer.

Toryion Stallings, Matanzas: Won the Marine Corps Challenge and Wolfpack Challenge in back-to-back weeks.

Basketball

Will Devis, Florida School of the Deaf and Blind: Devis is arguably one of the best and most disciplined on the defensive end of the floor, creating several turnovers opportunities in recent weeks.

Sydney Gomes, Nease: Broke the St. Johns County scoring record in a 20-point game last Friday. The previous record was held by Ponte Vedra’s Megan Piggott. Gomes now has 2,260 career points.

Emily McIntosh, St. Augustine: Had 18 points in a win over Ponte Vedra last week to go to 18-0 on the season. McIntosh hit two clutch free throws in overtime to seal the win.

Soccer

Jordan Follenweider, Bartram Trail: The senior notched a hat trick and added an assist as the Bears remained unbeaten with an 8-0 thrashing of Bolles.

Ana Whitehouse, St. Joseph: The junior fired 15 shots, scored six goals and picked up three assists in back-to-back blowout wins for the Flashes against Menendez and Oak Hall.

Ethan Bates, St. Augustine: The senior notched his first career hat trick in an 8-0 win over Palatka, and added an assist two nights later in a 4-1 victory over Matanzas.

Emily Myers, Seabreeze: The junior scored four goals and two assists in last week's Five Star tournament, including multi-goal outings against both Pine Ridge and Spruce Creek.

Victor Malo, Spruce Creek: Part of the Hawks' huge senior class, Malo helped overturn a halftime deficit with two second-half goals against DeLand in last week's Five Star tournament.
