Volusia-Flagler-St. Johns High School Athlete of the Week poll: March 27

The polls are open!

It's time to vote for the Volusia-Flagler-St. Johns Athlete of the Week for the week of March 20-25. Athletes for all in-season sports are eligible.

Last week, Beachside thrower Alexandra Bohanon took home the honor, claiming 37% of the votes.

The News-Journal and Record gather nominees from scores and stats emailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across the area. Coaches can email nominees to sports@news-jrnl.com.

Voting will close at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.

Baseball

Ben Apfelbach, Matanzas: The junior went four-for-four with two doubles and three RBIs in a win over Atlantic.

Colten Privett, Trinity Christian: The senior went three-for-five and drove in six runs in a victory over Geneva.

Flag Football

Ava Colubiale, Mainland: One of the state’s passing yardage leaders, the senior threw for 671 yards and eight touchdowns across three games, including wins over Pine Ridge and Celebration.

Amelie Kurlander, DeLand: The senior tossed two touchdowns to give the Bulldogs their first win of the season against Deltona.

Taylor Snowden, Spruce Creek: The senior recorded two interceptions in both of the undefeated Hawks’ tournament wins against Lakewood Ranch and Dr. Phillips.

Lacrosse

Kaiah McKay, Menendez: The sophomore racked up six goals and two assists in wins over Beachside and Providence School.

Madison Stevens, Bartram Trail: The junior had 10 saves in a win over St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes (Virginia). Stevens also had seven saves against Ponte Vedra, giving her a 44% save average for the week.

Softball

Corinna Cioffi, Nease: The junior pitched a shutout, giving up only four hits while striking out five in a 4-0 win over Fletcher.

Coral Hill, New Smyrna Beach: The sophomore had three hits (two doubles) and three RBIs in a win over Atlantic.

Lucie McDonald, Bartram Trail: The sophomore blasted two homers and drove in nine runs over three wins.

Madeline Prosser, Ponte Vedra: The junior knocked in four runs on three hits (two doubles) in a win over Nease.

Tennis

Melissa Perman, Spruce Creek: The junior won in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles against University Wednesday and beat Trinity Prep in No. 2 singles Thursday. She is 13-0 in singles and 10-1 in doubles this season.

Track and Field

Jayden Dailey, Tocoi Creek: The sophomore claimed the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at the Tocoi Creek Toro Showdown.

Kate Franklin, Creekside: The junior won the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdle events at the Tocoi Creek Toro Showdown.

Olivia Gaines, Matanzas: The junior won the 100-meter dash in 13.12 seconds and placed first in the long jump (16 feet, 3 inches) at the Earl Jackson Relays.

Volleyball

Jonathan Weissert, Tocoi Creek: The senior had 17 kills and 15 assists in a 3-0 win over St. Augustine.
