'He was dumped': Volusia man, 56, found shot to death near West Palm Beach intersection

WEST PALM BEACH — Police are looking for the person who fatally shot a 56-year-old Volusia County man and then left his body lying along a road along the city's western limits.

Officers found the remains of William Tempesta of Deltona at about 7:15 a.m. Sunday, West Palm Beach police spokesman Mike Jachles said. A driver saw the body lying on the 5900 block of Jog Road, between Florida's Turnpike and the entrance of the Ironhorse community.

"It's kind of a rural area. It doesn't appear that the man was killed there. He was dumped," Jachles said Sunday evening.

Police described Tempesta as 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds, with salt-and-pepper hair and a beard. He was wearing blue jeans and a black-and-gray T-shirt and was carrying a set of car keys, Jachles said. He did not have identification with him and was identified through fingerprints.

Investigators determined that Tempesta had been shot, but did not say where on his body the bullets struck, or how many shots he sustained, Jachles said.

"It does not appear he had been dead a long time," he said.

Tempesta's family was notified Sunday afternoon about his death, and waived their right to privacy so that the public could help discover what happened to him, he said.

"We are trying to determine whether he had any ties to South Florida," Jachles said.
