Volvo Trucks in Dublin hopes to boost sustainability with new VNL truck

PULASKI COUNTY, Va (WFXR) — Volvo Trucks is rolling out a new tractor-trailer at its plant in Dublin called the VNL truck, in hopes of helping create a more sustainable future while having economic benefits right here at home.

The facility in Dublin is the only Volvo Truck plant in North America. It currently employs around 3,500 people. Vice President of Strategy, Marketing, and Brand Management, Magnus Koeck, says they’re looking to increase that number.

“We are hiring more people as we speak in order to ramp up the production,” said Koeck.

He says they’ve already invested more than $400 million into this facility.

“It’s good for, of course, the local community here,” said Koeck.

And sustainability is a key factor. Volvo says for every gallon of diesel burned; 22.4 lbs of CO2 is released into the air.

The truck is said to be up to 10% more fuel efficient than other semis, which can help reduce emissions.

“This has an impact on the environment here and now,” said Koeck.

The VNL Truck will also feature advanced safety and living features to improve the experience for both drivers and pedestrians. The trucks will go into production later this year and should be ready to hit the road by the end of 2024.
