Voodoo Brewing coming to South Scranton

Sep. 30—Voodoo Brewing will be casting a spell on Scranton.

Kelley and Kevin Colleran are opening a Voodoo Brewing pub in South Scranton, according to a Facebook post.

The gastropub at 820 S. Washington Ave. is projected to open in November.

Voodoo Brewing Co. was started in Meadville in 2005 and opened its first taproom in 2012, according to its website.

Since then, the craft brewer has expanded with locations in State College, Homestead and Pittsburgh, and independently owned and operated locations in Houston, New Kensington and Indiana, all in Pennsylvania, and Cleveland, Ohio. Locations are also planned for Fountain Inn, South Carolina, and Las Vegas.

Voodoo produces a wide selection of craft beers, including a West Coast-style IPA called Good Vibes, sour-style Berliner Weisse called Lacto-Kooler and a traditional golden American Lager, Oh Mama.

The South Side building, once known as David Silks, is also home to the recently opened eatery, G&M's at the Warehouse.

The previously long-vacant building was purchased by brothers Sal and Joe Cerminaro, of Cerminaro Construction and other local firms, about five years ago, according to newspaper archives.

The 45,000-square-foot, two-story brick building had been an eyesore for many years, in disrepair and with boarded-up windows. It now has new windows and has been buzzing with construction activity for some time.

The property came with a large vacant lot on the northern side that could hold about 140 parking spaces, Joe Cerminaro said in 2020.

"Structurally, it's sound," Joe Cerminaro said of the building. "Structurally, you couldn't afford to build a building that strong today."
