Below are the six candidates, the athlete receiving the most votes will be highlighted as the Record’s Athlete of the Week. Voting will close at noon Monday.

See below for details on how you can become part of this.

(Players listed in alphabetical order)

Gianna Bava
Right side Hitter, Escalon (Senior)

In Escalon’s league matchup with Hughson on Sept. 22, Bava was a precise attacker finishing the match with six kills and only one error helping Escalon win 3-0. Bava continues to be a go-to for the Cougars on offense as they remain undefeated and she has the team’s highest hitting percentage, 40.5%, and the second most kills per set, 2.3 kills.

Elle Gianelli
Golf, St. Mary’s (Sophomore)

Gianelli has shined as a sophomore on the varsity team. She finished the Sept. 21 match against West with the Ram’s lowest score, 43. The following day in a match vs. Tokay, Gianelli played her best this season, finishing the course just two points off the Micke Grove Golf Course par 36. Her continued success helped St. Mary’s beat West and Tokay.

Anissa Mata
Outside Hitter, Franklin (Senior)

In Franklin’s Sept. 22 matchup with league rival Stagg, Mata helped lead the Yellowjackets to a close 3-2 win. Mata finished the match with 40 kills out of the team’s total 118 kills. The 5-foot 8-inch senior is a key player on offense for Franklin and is leading the team with kills per set, 2.3 kills.

Kenyon Nelson
Quarterback,  Lincoln (Senior)

Nelson showcased his dual-threat ability in the Trojans’ 61-22 win over East Union on Sept. 23. He finished the game throwing for 371 yards with only two incompletions and six passing touchdowns. On the ground, the 6-foot 1-inch senior rushed for 67 yards and a rushing touchdown. Nelson had a hand in just about all of Lincoln’s touchdowns against the Lancers.

Jesse Reidt
Water polo, Lincoln (Senior)

During a Sept. 19 match against Pitman, the Trojans were down 5-1 by the beginning of the second quarter. The 6-foot 2-inch senior helped close the gap leading the team in scoring with six goals as Lincoln went on a 10-0 run. Reidt’s contribution on offense helped his team hold Pitman below double digits to win 16-8.

Brayden “Bubba” Stout
Wide receiver, Lodi (Senior)

Lodi has been able to remain undefeated this season and speed in the backfield is a big reason why. In the Flames' Week 5 game against Gregori, Stout led the team offensively with two rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown. He finished the game with almost 150 all-purpose yards, 78 of them rushing yards.
