Here are the nominees for The Charlotte Observer’s boys athlete of the week. Readers can vote as often as they want until Saturday.

Seamus Bogan, Gaston Day Golf: The Spartans’ sophomore shot a two-under par, 70, to win the NCISAA 2A state individual title at Bryan Park Golf Club in Greensboro, May 16.

Bogan’s performance also helped the Gaston Day boys’ golf team to a state title, shooting a 10-over par, 226.

Andrew Chandler, Union Academy Baseball: The Cardinals’ senior went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI in a 10-9 win at Swain County in third round of the 1A state playoffs, May 17.

Chandler also went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBI in a 7-0 win at South Stokes in the 1A state quarterfinals, May 20.

Chandler is batting .342 with five doubles and 29 RBI for Union Academy (19-7) this season.

Matt Ferguson, Community School of Davidson Baseball: The Spartans’ senior went 5-for-9 with four runs scored, a home run and six RBI as Community School of Davidson beat Lincoln Charter and Trinity in the third round and quarterfinals of the 2A state playoffs, respectively, this week.

Ferguson hit a walk-off, three-run home run to give the Spartans a 6-5, 2A state quarterfinals, May 20.

Community School of Davidson (17-6) has won six straight games.

Max Jacobson, Charlotte Country Day Golf: The Buccaneers’ senior shot a two-over par, 74, with four birdies in his round to help the Charlotte Country Day boys’ golf team to NCISAA 4A state title by two shots (302, 14-over par) over Charlotte Latin at Bryan Park Golf Club in Greensboro, May 16.

Jacobson tied for fifth-place individually with teammate, freshman, Hudson Schulze, at the state championships.

Collin McDougal, Providence Baseball: The Panthers’ senior went 2-for-2 with a run scored, while pitching 2.1 innings in relief to earn the victory on the mound win in a 4-2, 4A state quarterfinal win over West Forsyth, May 20.

Providence (31-0) also beat South Mecklenburg 9-1 in the third round of the playoffs, May 17.

McDougal is a Wingate University baseball signee.

Trey Spees, East Lincoln Baseball: The Mustangs’ sophomore went 1-for-3 with a double, and a run scored in a 4-2 win over Carson in third round of the 3A state playoffs, May 17.

Spees also went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and a RBI in a 4-1 win over St. Stephens in 3A state quarterfinals, May 20.

Spees is batting .386 with a home run and 24 RBI for East Lincoln (20-6) this season.

Judd Utermark, Charlotte Christian Baseball: The Knights’ senior hit a school-record 18th home run to lead Charlotte Christian to a 7-3 win over Metrolina Christian in game one of the NCISAA 4A state championship series, May 20.

Utermark also went 2-for-2 with a double and a single, while pitching the final two outs of the game in a 7-3, series clinching win over Metrolina Christian to secure the state championship, May 21.

Charlotte Christian (30-3) also beat Rabun Gap Nacoochee in the NCISAA 4A state semifinals, May 17.

Utermark, an Ole Miss commit, is batting .446 with 18 homes run and 44 RBI this season.
