Here are this week’s nominees for The Charlotte Observer boys high school athlete of the week.

This week’s Nominees

Owen Akers, Carmel Christian tennis: The Cougars’ junior won all three of his No. 1 singles’ matches as Carmel Christian beat Charlotte Country Day (6-3, March 28), Charlotte Latin (5-4, March 29) and Covenant Day (9-0, March 30).

Akers also won his two doubles’ matches with teammate Noah Daniels, against Country Day and Latin.

Carmel Christian is 8-3 overall this season.

Christian Dixon, Mallard Creek Track: The Mavericks’ senior tied a personal-best with a 10.74 in the 100-meter dash, while leading both the 4 X 100 and 4 X 200-meter relays to victory in meet record times at the Queen City Relays at Myers Park April 1.

Dixon also won the 100-meter dash at Hopewell March 29.

Dixon won the Nike Indoor National title in the 200-meter dash in New York last month.

Christian Gonzalez, Piedmont Track: The Panthers’ senior won the 110-meter hurdles in a personal-best 16.55 at Porter Ridge March 29.

Gonzalez also won the 300-meter hurdles in 44.77 at the same meet.

Kristoffer Jones, North Mecklenburg Track: The Vikings’ junior won the 300-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 41.64 at Hopewell March 29.

Jones also won the 110-meter hurdles (15.24) and was runner-up in the high jump in a personal-best 6-2 at the same meet.

Max Kimpson, Ardrey Kell Track: The Knights’ senior won the discus in a personal-best 110-3 at Palisades March 29.

Kimpson also won the shot put in 41-4 at the same meet.

Jacob Kirby, Ardrey Kell Baseball: The Knights’ senior went 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple and two RBI in a 7-3 win over South Mecklenburg March 28.

Kirby, a University of North Carolina signee, followed that up by pitching a complete game with 12 strikeouts, while giving up only one earned run in a 4-1 win at South Mecklenburg April 1.

Ardrey Kell is 9-2 this season.

Spencer Mermans, Charlotte Country Day Track: The Buccaneers’ won the shot put in 52-9 and was runner-up in the discus in 151-3 at the Queen City Relays at Myers Park April 1.

Mermans also won the discus (157-1) and the shot put (51-5) at Providence Day March 29.

Mermans is a Yale University football commit.

Noah McGovern, Lake Norman Charter Lacrosse: The Knights’ sophomore goalkeeper had 13 saves in a 13-2 win at Community School of Davidson March 27.

McGovern also had four saves in a 16-2 victory at Mountain Island Charter March 29.

McGovern had 18 saves in an 8-5 win over Page March 31.

McGovern has 124 saves for Lake Norman Charter (8-4).

Bennett Miller, Cannon School Baseball: The Cougars’ sophomore right-handed pitcher tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out two batters while allowing just three hits as Cannon School beat Charlotte Christian for the first time in the 19-year history of the matchup March 30.

Cannon School (6-2) also lost to Charlotte Christian 4-0 March 28.

Miller is 2-1 on the mound with 17 strikeouts and a 1.00 ERA this season.

Kam Miller, Hickory Grove Baseball: The Lions’ senior went 2-for-3 in a 3-1 win over Greensboro Day March 28.

Miller also went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI in a 13-4 victory over Metrolina Christian March 30.

Miller is batting .489 with four home runs and 19 RBI for Hickory Grove (8-4).

Connor Natwick, Charlotte Christian Golf: The Knights’ junior shot a career-best 3-under-par 69, to lead Charlotte Christian to a victory over Carmel Christian and Charlotte Latin March 29.

Natwick had three birdies and an eagle in his round.

Sam Radke, Providence Day Lacrosse: The Chargers’ senior long stick midfielder had 12 groundballs, five takeaways, one goal and one assist as Providence Day beat SouthLake Christian 16-2 March 28, and also defeated Weddington 15-10 April 1.

Providence Day is 7-3 this season.

Davis Sayman, Charlotte Latin Golf: The Hawks’ senior shot a 7-under-par 65 to lead Charlotte Latin to a team score of 10-under in a win over Covenant Day at Pine Lake Country Club March 28.

Sayman is a Davidson College golf signee.

Issac Snapp, Covenant Day Baseball: The Lions’ sophomore pitched a complete-game shutout with nine strikeouts allowing just two hits in a 4-0 win over Charlotte Latin March 28.

Covenant Day (8-5-1) also won 5-1 at Charlotte Latin March 31 and lost 8-5 at Durham Academy April 1.

Snapp is 3-0 on the mound with 31 strikeouts in 25 innings, while boasting an 0.84 ERA.

Jason Zawtocki, Providence Day Golf: The Chargers’ sophomore shot an even par 71 to help lead Providence Day to a season-low team score of 300, while beating Christ School and Cannon School at Cedarwood Country Club March 30.

Providence Day beat runner-up Christ School by eight shots.
