Here are this week’s nominees for The Charlotte Observer boys high school athlete of the week.

This week’s nominees

Riley Allenspach, Providence Day Basketball: The 6-foot-11 senior scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds in a 70-64 win at Charlotte Country Day Jan. 24.

Allenspach also had 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 47-45 win over Charlotte Latin Jan. 27.

Providence Day is 15-11 this season.

Corey Gaines, Gaston Christian Basketball: The 5-foot-9 senior point guard scored 25 points, going 10-for-13 from the field, to go with five assists, four steals and three rebounds in a 71-68 win over Westminster Catawba Jan. 27.

Gaines is averaging 13.6 points, 4.8 assists, 4.2 steals and 2.8 rebounds per game for Gaston Christian (12-8) this season.

Dallas Gardner, Charlotte Country Day Basketball: The 6-foot-3 senior scored 33 points in a 70-56 win over Charlotte Christia Jan. 27.

Gardner also scored 26 points in a 70-64 loss to Providence Day Jan. 24.

Charlotte Country Day is 17-10 overall this season.

Hunter Hinson, Piedmont Basketball: The 6-foot-8 senior scored 20 points to lead Piedmont to a 66-51 win over Weddington Jan. 27.

Hinson is averaging 12 points and six rebounds per game for a Piedmont team (15-5) that has won five straight games.

Ned Hull, Charlotte Latin Basketball: The 6-foot-2 senior scored 25 points and had five rebounds in a 68-60 win over Cannon School, Jan. 24. Hull was 13-for-13 from the free-throw line in the victory.

Hull also scored 22 points, four rebounds and four assists in a 47-45 loss at Providence Day Jan. 27.

Hull is averaging 24 points, 5.2 rebounds and four assists per game for Charlotte Latin (12-8) this season.

Jonah Lawrence, East Mecklenburg Basketball: The 6-foot-3 sophomore scored 25 points, had five rebounds and one assist in an 87-51 win over Garinger Jan. 24.

Lawrence also had 18 points to with 11 rebounds and an assist in a 62-57 win at Butler Jan. 27.

Lawrence is averaging 21.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game for East Mecklenburg (16-4) this season.

Isaiah Martino, Lake Norman Charter Basketball: The 5-foot-8 senior point guard poured in a season-high 27 points, going 11-for-15 from the field, to lead Lake Norman Charter to a 68-50 win over Carson.

Martino also scored 11 points in a 72-46 victory at East Rowan Jan. 27.

Martino is averaging 14.9 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals per game for Lake Norman Charter (10-9) this season.

Trey Minard, III, West Cabarrus Basketball: The 6-foot-3 senior scored 31 points and had seven rebounds in a 58-55 loss at Cox Mill Jan. 24.

Minard also scored 20 points, had eight rebounds and three assists in a 70-56 loss to Lake Norman.

West Cabarrus is 11-6 overall this season.

Peter Moye, South Mecklenburg Basketball: The 6-foot-3 senior scored 16 points, had 12 rebounds and three assists in a 51-41 win at Berry Jan. 24.

Moye also scored 25 points and had 10 rebounds in a narrow, 61-58 loss to T.W. Andrews Jan. 28.

Moye is averaging 21.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game for South Mecklenburg (7-13) this season.

Elijah Strong, Myers Park Basketball: The 6-foot-8 senior scored 20 points to go with six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in a 75-38 win over Harding Jan. 24.

Strong followed that up with 17 points and nine rebounds in a 57-49 victory at Ardrey Kell Jan. 27.

Strong is averaging 15.7 points and five rebounds for Myers Park (16-4) this season.

Kameron Taylor, Olympic Basketball: The 6-foot-5 junior scored 25 points to go with five rebounds, six assists and four steals in an 80-41 win over Palisades Jan. 27.

Taylor is averaging 19 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals per game for Olympic (19-1) this season.

Quay Watson, Hopewell Basketball: The 5-foot-11 junior poured in 27 points with seven rebounds and five assists to lead Hopewell to a 72-61 win over West Charlotte Jan. 27.

Watson also scored 23 points to go with six rebounds and six assists in a 57-55 victory at Mallard Creek Jan. 24.

Hopewell is 12-7 overall this season.
