This week’s nominees

Alessia Addo, Pine Lake Prep indoor track: The Pride junior won the 300-meter dash (43.88 seconds) and helped the 800-meter relay team to victory at the Catawba Shores’ 1A/2A conference championship at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem Jan. 30.

Addo also finished third in the long jump (15-8 1/2) and on the 1,600-meter relay team at the meet.

Kiara Anderson, East Lincoln basketball: The 5-4 sophomore point guard scored 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds, seven assists, seven steals and one block in a 65-17 win at Statesville Jan. 30.

Anderson also scored 29 points with five rebounds, five assists and eight steals in a 73-17 victory at West Iredell Feb. 2.

Anderson is averaging 21.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 4.9 steals per game for an East Lincoln team (19-1) that has won 13 straight games this season.

Eriyana Anthony, Sugar Creek basketball: The 5-5 freshman scored 22 points, had 10 steals and five rebounds in a 60-15 win over Queens Grant Jan. 30.

The next day, Anthony had 14 points in a 53-21 win over Carolina International.

Anthony also scored eight points and had three rebounds in a 54-21 loss to Jackson Day.

Anthony is averaging 7.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game for Sugar Creek Charter.

Zetta Grace Bartee, Providence Day swimming: The Chargers’ sophomore won the CISAA conference title in the 50 freestyle in a school-record time of 23.90 seconds at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center Feb. 1.

Bartee won the 100 butterfly in a conference record time of 54.76.

Bartee also helped both the Chargers to CISAA titles in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays in conference record times.

Abby Courtney, Lake Norman Charter basketball: The 5-5 freshman had a career-high 23 points to go with 11 steals, three rebounds and two assists in a 46-22 victory at Carson Feb. 2.

Courtney also scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in a 53-51 loss to Concord Jan. 30.

Courtney is averaging 10.3 points, four rebounds, 2.5 assists and three steals per game for Lake Norman Charter.

Makailah Davis, South Mecklenburg basketball: The 5-7 junior scored a career-high 40 points, including eight three-pointers, to lead the Sabres to a 67-41 win at Palisades Feb. 2.

Davis also had 23 points in a 61-30 win over Berry Jan. 30.

She scored 12 points in a 55-39 loss to Charlotte Catholic Jan. 31.

Davis is averaging 21 points per game for South Mecklenburg.

Camri Hobbs, Jay M. Robinson basketball: The 6-3 sophomore scored 37 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had four steals in a 72-59 win at East Rowan Jan. 30.

Hobbs scored 22 points in a 70-50 loss at Northwest Cabarrus Feb. 2.

Hobbs is averaging 21.6 points per game for Jay M. Robinson.

Chai James, Olympic basketball: The 6-2 freshman scored a career-high 22 points, had 17 rebounds and three blocks in a 51-37 win at Harding Jan. 31.

The previous night, James scored 10 points, grabbed nine rebounds and one block in a 64-34 loss at Ardrey Kell.

James is averaging 10.9 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game for Olympic.

Avery Klamfoth, Myers Park swimming: The Mustangs’ junior swam a time of 1:59.57 to win the 4A West Regional title in the 200 individual medley at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center Feb. 3.

Klamfoth helped both the 200 medley relay (1:44.07) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.70) to regional titles the same day.

Klamfoth’s efforts also helped the Myers Park girls’ swim team to a 4A West Regional title by 50 points over runner-up Marvin Ridge.

Kallie Lusk, Lincoln Charter basketball: The 5-10 senior scored 23 points, had two assists and two steals in a 78-42 win at Pine Lake Prep Feb. 2.

Lusk also scored eight points, had five rebounds and three steals in a 60-13 win over Langtree Charter Jan. 30.

Maya McCorkle, Cannon School basketball: The 5-9 junior scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, had seven assists and four steals to lead Cannon School to an 81-26 win over Charlotte Christian Feb. 2.

McCorkle also scored 12 points, had 12 rebounds, six assists and three steals in a 70-51 win at Charlotte Country Day Jan. 30.

McCorkle is averaging 13.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists for Cannon School.

She has scholarship offers from both Queens University and UNC Wilmington, with interest from Elon, Furman, George Washington University, Towson and Wisconsin, according to Cannon School girls’ basketball coach Kelvin Drakeford.

Blanca Thomas, Charlotte Catholic basketball: The 6-5 senior scored 17 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and had three blocks in a 49-43 win over Independence Jan. 30.

The next night, Thomas had 21 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks in a 55-39 victory at South Mecklenburg.

Thomas finished off the week with 10 points, six rebounds and six blocks in a 65-25 win at Rocky River, Feb. 2.

Thomas, a University of North Carolina commit, is averaging 18.1 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game.
