Boys and Girls #MSPreps Athlete of the Week winners for Nov. 8-14

Fridays are for the stars in Mississippi high school sports.

Each Friday morning the Clarion Ledger will announce the boys and girls #MSPreps Athlete of the Week. The nominees included the state's top prep sports performances from Nov. 8-14.

Boys athlete of the week

Otis James, Vicksburg (football): James ran for 165 touchdowns and three touchdowns in the Gators' 25-3 victory over Cleveland Central.

James received 64% of the boys #MSPreps Athlete of the Week votes.

Girls athlete of the week

Taelar Felton, Clinton (basketball): Felton had 16 points, 6 rebounds and four steals in the Arrows' 78-46 victory over Terry. The sophomore finished with 36 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists in a 88-64 victory over Tupelo on Saturday.

Felton received 86.25% of the girls #MSPreps Athlete of the Week votes.

How to nominate: Nominations for the week open every Friday at noon and close at 9 a.m. the following Monday. Please include the athlete's name, school, stats and team record from the past week in an email to lnewsome@gannett.com and CLScoreboard@jackson.gannett.com.

How to vote: The male and female #MSPreps Athlete of the Week polls will be released every Monday at 11 a.m. Voting is limited to one vote per hour for each poll, and the polls are open until noon Thursday.
