Take a close look at Ken Calvert's votes

U.S. Rep. Ken Calvert recently sent an election advertisement to Coachella Valley voters. It describes none of the laws he has passed in his 29 years in the House and does not describe himself as a Republican.

Calvert does not mention his Jan. 6, 2021, vote to decertify millions of legitimate American votes so Donald Trump could stay in power even though Trump lost the election. Calvert did so after insurrectionists stormed the Capitol to end American democracy and injured 140 police officers.

In August of 2021, Calvert said he hoped charges would be dropped against some of the people who were arrested after entering the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Calvert also voted against the House investigation of the events of Jan. 6. He also opposed impeaching Donald Trump for withholding $400 million in congressionally authorized aid to Ukraine unless it announced an investigation of Hunter and Joseph Biden in 2019.

As for women’s rights, in July of 2021 Calvert signed a legal brief urging the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Calvert’s actions as a congressman should be considered by all voters who support American democracy and women’s rights.

Allowing homelessness is inhuman

As I drove into Palm Springs and the downtown area, I was overwhelmed with emotion looking at the people living on the street. It was 100 degrees and conditions seemed unbearable for any human being.

I urge your your politicians to try to provide better conditions to avoid human suffering. Also, maybe a citizens action group could get involved.

This is America; no one deserves to live this way.
