Vote for Des Moines Register high school athletes of the week for April 4-10

With Iowa's high school spring sports in full swing, it's time for the Des Moines Register's athlete of the week recognition.

Each Monday, we'll select five boys and five girls who stood out during the previous week. Fans will have until Friday to vote on the athlete of the week winners, which will be announced early Friday afternoon. Spring sports consist of boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track and field, boys and girls golf and boys and girls tennis.

Polls are at the bottom of each section. Here are the nominations for April 4-10.

Boys

Fernando Reyes, Storm Lake soccer

Reyes was everywhere in Friday's 9-0 win over Fort Dodge, scoring seven times on all seven of his shots on goal.

Daniel Perez, Wapello soccer

Perez took center stage in Friday's 10-1 win over Highland, piling up seven goals and two assists for 16 total points. Currently, that's the most points any boys player has produced in a game this season.

Eli Merfeld, Cascade soccer

The freshman stepped in and made 19 saves in Saturday's 3-1 win over Clayton Ridge. Currently, Merfeld's showing is the most saves any boys player has made in a winning effort this season.
