Camdyn Kay, Cam Geuther are the Register's Athlete of the Week winners for Feb. 13-19
Dubuque Hempstead girls basketball player Camdyn Kay and West Delaware wrestler Cam Geuther were named the Des Moines Register Athletes of the Week for Feb. 13-19 by Register readers.
Cay was named Female Athlete of the Week in a close battle with Sigourney-Keota wrestler Reanah Utterback. Cay received 42.27% of the vote (30,147) and Utterback got 34.92% (24,906).
Kay had 33 points on 14-of-24 shooting and pulled down six rebounds for Dubuque Hempstead during a 58-43 upset victory over Waterloo East in the 5A regional quarterfinals on Feb. 15. She also had 9 points and 10 rebounds in a season-ending loss to Cedar Falls on Feb. 18.

Geuther won the Male Athlete of the Week voting with 61.17% of the vote (7,086). Iowa City's Cale Seaton, a Class 3A state wrestling champion at 126, came in second with 32.49% (3,764).

After placing sixth at state a year ago Geuther claimed a state championship at 285 in 2A on Saturday.
The West Delaware senior pinned Glenwood's Trent Patton and Hampton-Dumont-CAL's Carter Heilskov to reach the semifinals, where he earned a tough 3-0 victory over fourth seed Korver Hupke. In the championship match, Geuther defeated upset-minded Wil Textor of Dike-New Hartford by a 7-0 decision to earn a state title with a 43-5 record.
