Audi Crooks and Lucas Lueth are the Des Moines Register's athletes of the week for Feb. 27-Mar. 5
Bishop Garrigan senior Audi Crooks and Ames senior Lucas Lueth are the Des Moines Register female and male Athlete of the Week winners for Feb. 27-Mar. 5.
Crooks dominated the female Athlete of the Week voting. She received 90.12% of the vote (4,179) after a historic performance during the girls state basketball tournament last week at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
The future Iowa State Cyclone led the Golden Bears to their second Class 1A state championship in a row with a state tournament for the ages. She set a state tournament record with 42 points during Garrigan's 67-44 quarterfinal win over Martesdale St. Marys. Then she broke that record in the championship game with 49 in a 68-57 victory over Newell-Fonda.

For the tournament Crooks averaged 39 points, 13.3 rebounds and 3.7 blocks. She shot 81% from the field during the tournament.
Lueth won the male Athlete of the Week voting after receiving 82.03% of the vote. Waukee Northwest's Pryce Sandfort was a distant second at 7.29%.
Lueth, an elite defensive stopper, went for a career-high 29 points during Ames' 67-49 4A Substate 6 championship game in Nevada on Feb. 28.
Lueth made 11-of-18 field goals, 3-of-5 3-pointers and all four of his attempts from the line to help the defending 4A state champions get back to the state tournament. Lueth also pulled down seven rebounds, blocked four shots and dished out two assists.
