Vote for Detroit and Michigan artists that should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Note: We've extended voting through May 1 to coincide with the Rock & Roll of Fame's inductees announcement that month.

Which Detroit and Michigan artists are overdue for a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? You can weigh in below.

Detroit has done mighty well at the rock hall through the years. Twenty local performers have been enshrined — from Aretha Franklin in 1987 to Eminem in 2022. At the turn of the 21st century, Motor City artists made up more than 15% of the entire inductees body. We got two more nominees on Feb. 1, the White Stripes and the Spinners, who will learn in May if they're inducted.

But plenty of notable Detroit and Michigan figures remain on the sidelines, including some who have been eligible for decades.

You can chime in via the Detroit Free Press poll below, selecting up to three names in this fun, unscientific survey. There's a write-in option if you want to vote for an artist not listed.

Our list of 30 artists was compiled with the guidelines they're using at the hall of fame, where pop, R&B and hip-hop are increasingly spotlighted alongside the stuff traditionally considered rock ‘n’ roll. Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after their first commercial release.

The poll will be live through May 1, and we’ll dive into the results here at the Detroit Free Press and Freep.com soon after.

(Note: Two people on this list, Diana Ross and Iggy Pop, are already in the hall of fame as members of groups [the Supremes and Stooges] but haven't yet been inducted as solo artists.)
