Boys basketball: Southside's Will Shirley wins male athlete area of week honors

Southside's Will Shirley won the male athlete of the week honors in the Gadsden area.

Shirley led the Panthers with 16 points in a 44-32 win over West End and scored eight points in a 42-32 loss to Hokes Bluff in the semifinals of the Etowah County basketball tournament.

He won 50.98% of the vote, while Sardis' Luke Martin finished second with 44.11% of the vote.
