Vote for the GHT Player of the Week for Week 9

GAYLORD — Another week of outstanding performances from area athletes leads us to another Player of the Week vote.

Each week, four athletes from Gaylord, St. Mary and Johannesburg-Lewiston will be eligible to win, and it will be up to you to decide who takes home the crown each week.

Polls will go live on petoskeynews.com/sports on Sunday afternoons and will close on Mondays at 11:59 p.m.

Previous weeks' winners:

Week one: Brady Pretzlaff, Gaylord football

Week two: Donovan Blust, Gaylord St. Mary football

Week three: Charlie Holscher, Gaylord soccer

Week four: Russell Hush, Gaylord football

Week five: Abby Radulski, Gaylord volleyball

Week six: Elijah Lindbert, Johannesburg-Lewiston football

Week seven: Ty Bensinger, Gaylord football

Week eight: Jocelyn Tobias, Johannesburg-Lewiston volleyball

Jayden Marlatt, Johannesburg-Lewiston Volleyball

One of the area's most dominant athletes put herself in her school's record books again this week.

Jayden Marlatt has been one of the top volleyball players in J-L program history, grabbing a school record a year ago for the most kills in a single season. Now, just a junior, Marlatt is J-L's Queen of Kills.

With a team-high 28 kills in two matches with Mackinaw City and Boyne City, she officially became the school's all-time kill leader, standing at 1,149 and counting after another dominant week.

Marlatt, eyeing yet another All-State selection, has been the leader of one of the most successful teams in the area this fall season.

Lasse Felten, Gaylord St. Mary's football

What could be better than a new school record? How about a state record?

That's what German exchange student Lasse Felten left with after his performance in St. Mary's 62-0 win over Bear Lake on Saturday night as he became the first player in MHSAA 8-man football history to kick four field goals in the same game.

His last kick was the highlight of the night as Felten cleared the uprights on a 47-yard attempt with room to spare, entering himself into the MHSAA record books with a four-for-four kicking night.

Until Saturday, he had been mostly relegated to kickoff duty. That may change after that performance he put on.

Russell Hush, Gaylord football

Until this week, we had avoided a second nomination for an athlete that had already won the award once.

Russell Hush forced our hand.

The junior back had arguably the best performance of the week in the most pivotal of moments, rushing for 179 yards and a touchdown in a 28-7 win over Clare on Friday.

It was a performance the Blue Devils had to have as a loss would have likely eliminated them from playoff contention. Now, with the victory, Hush and the Blue Devils will face the Mount Pleasant Oilers in round one of the MHSAA Division 3 Playoffs.

Gavin Bebble, Gaylord St. Mary Football

If only senior Gavin Bebble could have had a completely healthy season, he would've been on this list a few more times. But, he certainly earned a nomination this week.

While the focus was certainly on the kicking game and his teammate, Bebble quietly turned in one of his best performances of the season, finishing with three total touchdowns in the blowout victory.

On offense, Bebble had 75 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while on defense, he added a scoop-and-score touchdown, capping off the three-score day.

With the Snowbirds at full strength heading into the playoffs, Bebble is sure to be a focal point of whatever they plan to do.
