Greater Savannah area high school football player of the week: Doopah Coleman, Calvary Day

Calvary Day sophomore Doopah Coleman fights for yardage in a win over Johnson on Oct. 14.

Calvary Day is the only undefeated high school football team in the Greater Savannah area as the Cavs are 7-0 heading into their matchup with visiting Long County Friday night.

Sophomore receiver Doopah Coleman has played a pivotal role in the team's success. Last week, he had six catches for 137 yards and a score and also rushed for a touchdown in a 56-13 win over Savannah Country Day.

Coleman was selected as the Savannah Morning News high school football player of the week in a poll of readers as he came home with 42.7% of the vote to edge his teammate Michael Smith, who garnered 42.3%, in the closest contest of the season.

Amarion Scott of Johnson was third with 10.8%.

Coleman has 19 catches for 407 yards and six touchdowns and has rushed for 107 yards and three more scores. He also has a kickoff return for a touchdown. He has s scholarship offers -- including Florida State and Arkansas.

The senior rushed for 212 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 17 carries and had four two-point conversion runs in a 40-6 win over Groves.

Pauly Seeley, New Hampstead

The senior was 21-of-28 passing for 311 yards and five touchdowns in a 48-7 win over Islands.

Michael Smith, Calvary Day

The junior had three receptions, all for touchdowns, for 109 yards in the Cavaliers' win over Savannah Country Day.

Malachi Lonnon, New Hampstead

The junior had six catches for 149 yards and three scores in the win over Islands.

Doopah Coleman, Calvary Day

The sophomore had six catches for 137 yards and a score and also rushed for a touchdown in the win over SCD.

Zayden Edwards, St. Andrew's

The sophomore was 14-of-27 passing for 208 yards and rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown in a 30-26 loss to Pinewood Christian.

Luke Kromenhoek, Benedictine

The junior completed 15 of 25 passes for 166 yards and rushed for 25 yards and a score in a 31-10 win over Wayne County.

David Bucey, Savannah Christian

The junior had nine tackles, including two for losses, and had three catches for 70 yards in a 49-7 win over Beach.
