Vote for The Herald’s high school fall sports athlete of the week

Below are the nominees for The Herald’s high school athlete of the week.

Garrett Brown, South Pointe cross-country: The Stallions’ senior ran a 15:50.53 to win the 4A state championship at Newberry College, Nov. 10. Brown, who won by nearly 17 seconds, led the South Pointe boys’ cross-country team to a 10th-place state finish.

Bella Cardozo, Catawba Ridge cross-country: The Copperheads’ sophomore ran a team-best 20:16.98 to finish 20th-place overall at the 4A state championship at Newberry College, Nov. 10. The Catawba Ridge girls’ cross country team finished in 14th-place at the state meet.

Alivia Cleveland, Fort Mill cross-country: The Yellow Jackets’ sophomore ran an 18:17.24 to win the 5A state championship at Newberry College by 15 seconds, Nov. 11. Cleveland also led the Fort Mill girls’ cross-country team to a 5A state the same day by eight points over the field.

Max Conetta, Catawba Ridge cross-country: The Copperheads’ junior ran a 16:38.74 to earn all-state honors, while finishing seventh-place at the 4A state championships at Newberry College, Nov. 10.

Conetta’s efforts also helped the Catawba Ridge cross country team win the 4A state championship by 12 points over the field the same day.

Josh Koziol, York County Trailblazers cross-country: The Trailblazers’ senior ran a 16:20.86 to win the SCHSAA state title in Early Branch, Nov. 4. Koziol also led the York County Trailblazers’ boys’ cross-country team (homeschool) to a state championship by 17 points the same day.

Tanner Long, Fort Mill cross-country: The Yellow Jackets’ senior ran a team-best 16:05.89 to earn all-state honors at the 5A state championships at Newberry College, Nov. 11. Long’s run also helped the Fort Mill boys’ cross-country team to a state runner-up finish to Dorman.

Mia Royall, Nation Ford cross-country: The Falcons’ senior ran an 18:32.95 to finish as state runner-up at the 5A state championships at Newberry College, Nov. 11. Royall led the Nation Ford girls’ cross-country team to a fifth-place finish at state meet.

Lydia Sasser, Northwestern cross-country: The Trojans’ sophomore ran a 20:16.69 to finish 19th-place at the 4A state championships at Newberry College, Nov. 10. Sasser’s efforts also helped the Northwestern girls’ cross-country team to a fifth-place finish at the state championship meet.

Ava Shook, York cross-country: The Cougars’ sophomore ran a personal-best 19:35.27 to earn all-state honors while finishing seventh-place overall at the 4A girls’ state championships at Newberry College, Nov. 10. Shook was the Region III, 4A champion, Oct. 28.
