Vote for the Herald-Tribune Athlete of the Week for March 27-April 1

Athlete of the Week nominees are selected from scores and statistics sent in by Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte county coaches throughout the week to htincoming@gmail.com. Readers can then vote in the online poll to determine the Athlete of the Week.

The last winner was Sarasota High baseball player, Rocco Depastino, who garnered 6,121 votes or 58.3% of the vote.

Lakewood Ranch High baseball player, Andrew Schroeder, came in second with 3,365 votes or 32.1% of the vote

The poll will be posted at heraldtribune.com each Monday, and voting will end at 10 a.m. Friday each week.

Here are the nominees

Jobe Fish, Venice, baseball

Pitched six innings, allowing no hits or runs with two walks and 11 strikeouts against Mountain Brook (Alabama).

Ashling Marshall, Saint Stephen’s lacrosse

Scored seven goals, had one assist and four draw controls against Gulf Coast.

Rex Smith, Sarasota, baseball

Went 3-for-4 with a triple and two doubles and a run batted in against North Port.

Ella Torres, Parrish Community, softball

Pitched a complete-game 2-hitter with 11 strikeouts against Venice.

Jewelie Vanderkous, North Port, softball

Went 4-for-4 with a double, run scored, run batted in and pitched six innings allowing two runs (one earned) with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

Matt Vara, Saint Stephen’s, lacrosse

Scored six goals, had three assists and four ground balls against Lakewood Ranch.
