Dunlap swimmer voted as Peoria Journal Star high school athlete of the week

Dunlap swimmer Ally Unruh was voted as the Journal Star athlete of the week.

Unruh earned 174 of the 609 votes, beating out Elmwood/Brimfield boys cross country runner Isaiah Hill (101 votes).

Unruh was a two-event winner at Saturday's Mid-Illini Conference Invitational at Pekin. Her individual victory came in the 500-yard freestyle along with winning the 400-yard freestyle relay. She teamed with Shannon McCall, Grace DiGiallonardo and Ava Salverson as the Eagles won the invite, 437.5 points over Washington (376) and third-place finisher Pekin (264).

The poll closed at noon Friday. Information about the other nominees is below. If you have a nominee for the honor, email us at sports@pjstar.com or tag us on Twitter @pjstarsports. Last week, Kaitlyn Robinson of the Macomb volleyball team was named JS athlete of the week.

Garrett Cox, Washington football

The senior played rare double duty in Washington's 7-0 win over Morton last Friday. He filled in as punter and kicker, averaging 33.5 yards on four punts. He also kicked an extra point in the game's lone score. The defensive lineman also posted 1.5 sacks as the Panthers (6-3) ride a five-game win streak into Friday's Class 6A playoff meeting with Midlothian Bremen (8-1).

Mason Boles, Eureka football

The senior was responsible for two touchdowns as the Hornets bounced back with a 21-0 win over Deer Creek-Mackinaw last Friday. Boles put the Hornets ahead 14-0 with an 82-yard fumble return for a TD. He then capped the game's scoring with a 65-yard TD run. Eureka (7-2) hosts Beardstown (5-4) for a 7:30 p.m. Friday in a Class 3A first-round meeting.

Maddie Mooney, Metamora volleyball

The senior libero helped Metamora wrap up its regular season and undefeated Mid-Illini Conference season on Thursday. Mooney recorded 10 digs and three aces in a 25-11, 25-12 win over Dunlap. The victory secured a 14-0 season in league play for the Redbirds (29-4), who open Class 3A regional play next Tuesday at home.

Kenna Wollard, Illinois Valley Central volleyball

Wollard became the Peoria area's all-time career kill leader on Saturday. Behind her 25-kill effort in a two-set win over Rantoul, the senior outside hitter now has 1,704 kills, passing Morton's Allison McGlaughlin, who had 1,697 kills from 2004-07. Wollard also sits at No. 3 in state history with that tally. That victory gave IVC (31-3-1) the program record for wins in a season, while also locking up an undefeated Illini Prairie Conference championship at 9-0.
