Vote for Livingston Daily Athlete of the Week (May 9-15, 2022)

I figured with the KLAA and SEC White holding league track and field meet Friday that this Livingston Daily Athlete of the Week poll would be filled with athletes from that sport.

There were certainly great performances by Livingston County athletes on the track and in the field events, but players in other sports stepped up with some huge performances worthy of making the ballot.

Would I personally pick Emmy Sargeant of Hartland for winning the three sprints in the KLAA meet? Absolutely. But she was on the ballot last week and Hartland distance superstar Riley Hough was on it two weeks ago, so they'll be back after winning some regional or state championships in the coming weeks.

Voting will end at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Vote early, vote often.

Charyl Stockwell baseball player Aidan Liedeke won last week's poll. Profiles on the winners run in the Sunday newspaper.

Aidan Brennan, Howell baseball

Brennan went 5-for-7 with a grand slam, three doubles and nine RBI in a 9-7, 12-2 sweep of Novi. For the week, Brennan was 12-for-20 with 12 RBI in six games. He leads Howell with a .404 batting average and 31 RBI in 29 games.

Winston Lerch, Brighton golf

Lerch shot the lowest nine-hole score in school history with a 3-under-par 32 at Fox Hills in Plymouth, winning by two strokes in a dual against Canton. He finished second out of 115 golfers with a 74 in the Schwartz Company Investments tournament, leading Brighton to the team title. He tied for first in a dual victory over Northville with a 37.

Brielle Reason, Pinckney track and field

Reason had three first-place finishes and a second in the SEC White meet. She won the 200-meter dash in 26.71 seconds; the long jump at 15 feet, 3 inches; and was on the winning 1,600 relay team. She was on the second-place 800 relay team.

Sydney Scoggins, Brighton softball

Scoggins drove in seven of Brighton’s eight runs in an 8-7 victory over Northville, hitting a walk-off two-run single in the bottom of the seventh. She hit a grand slam and a two-run homer earlier in the game. Scoggins is hitting .398 with three homers and 21 RBI.

John Weber, Hartland lacrosse

Weber set a Livingston County record with 10 goals in an 18-8 victory over Brighton. He has 59 goals and 12 hat tricks, scoring at least five goals six times. He broke the county mark of nine goals set by Howell’s Jack Radzville against Brighton on April 18, 2018 and the school record of eight shared by Dalton Reiche (2014) and Reece Potter (2019).
