Meet this week's Louisville high school girls athlete of the week from Eastern High

For this week's Courier Journal girls athlete of the week, fans stepped off the hardwood and onto the lanes.

Eastern high school bowler Taylor Sams, who finished fourth overall in the KHSAA girls bowling state championship, is this week's AOTW after edging out a talented field of five.

Central senior JaLa Douglass (14.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg) has been key to the Yellow Jackets' success this season. On Monday she came up big yet again, finishing with 21 points and nine rebounds in a 59-58 overtime win over Christian Academy.

Portland Christian's Ellie Heid couldn't be stopped this week. The junior guard powered the Eagles to a 64-25 win over Highland Latin on Tuesday and led all scorers with 33 points and eight rebounds while shooting 58% from the field (14 of 24). Then on Friday she scored her 3,000th career point on a free throw and finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, six steals and four assists in a 55-20 win over Eminence.

Eastern high school bowler Taylor Sams finished fourth overall in the KHSAA girls bowling state championship last Wednesday. Sams rolled a five-game total score of 956 to advance to make the final four, where she lost in the first round to eventual state champion Avery Reeves (Lafayette) 209-179.

Ramiya White, Butler girls basketball

Assumption simply couldn't keep Butler's Ramiya White off the glass Tuesday. Led by the junior's 11 points and 15 rebounds, the Bearettes escaped with a big-time 64-61 upset in overtime.
