Hailey D'Andrea voted the Montgomery-area girls high school athlete of the week May 2-8

Montgomery Catholic track and field freshman Hailey D'Andrea was voted the Montgomery Advertiser girls high school athlete of the week for the first week of May.

D'Andrea received 16,249 votes, or 43.38% of the total. In second place was Lily Stubbs of Edgewood Academy.

This is the second athlete of the week victory this season for D'Andrea, who previously won the week of Feb. 7-13 for her performance with the Knights' soccer team.

  • Batted 6-for-8 with two stolen bases, two runs scored and an RBI during two wins over Montgomery Catholic to claim the Class 3A Area 6 championship, the ninth straight for the Panthers since joining the AHSAA

SOFTBALL: AHSAA area tournament results for Montgomery-area softball teams

Jessica Cord, softball, Prattville

  • Went 4-for-4 and hit a go-ahead, two-RBI single in the sixth inning, leading a late rally in a 6-4 win over Enterprise to win the Class 7A Area 3 championship

  • Won two complete games against Enterprise during the area tournament, giving up 10 hits and four earned runs in 14 innings while walking just two

  • Went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored in an 11-1 win over Dothan

  • Needed just 153 pitches to complete 14 total innings against Lowndes and Hooper, threw 118 of them for strikes

  • Didn't walk a single batter in 14 innings

  • Pitched a complete game two-hitter in an 9-0 win over Bessemer Academy on May 3
