Mackenzie Smith is the Montgomery-area girls high school athlete of the week for March 21-27

Elmore County senior softball player Mackenzie Smith was voted the Montgomery Advertiser high school athlete of the week for the fourth week of March.

Smith won with 11,476 votes in total, or 53.53%. In second place was Brantley's Sheonte Barginere.

Sheonte Barginere, softball, Brantley

  • Batted .412 with a home run and three doubles, driving in seven runs, as Brantley went 3-2 over the past week

  • Drove in three runs apiece in wins over Red Level (March 22) and Spring Garden (March 26)

Taniyah Brown, softball, Brewbaker Tech

  • Struck out 48 batters in 29⅓ innings, allowing only four earned runs, to lead the Rams to a 6-1 record the past week and second place at the Alex Wilcox Tournament; threw two no-hitters

  • Went .600 at the plate with four extra-base hits and 12 RBIs

Kaylee Robles, softball, Prattville

  • Hit two home runs, resulting in four RBIs, in a 5-2 win over Charles Henderson on March 26

  • Hit .500 on the weekend

Mackenzie Smith, softball, Elmore County

  • Went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs in a 10-1 win over Dale County on March 21

  • Went 3-for-3 with an RBI in a 13-0 win over Scotts Hill (TN) on March 21

  • Batted .800 for the week

Heather Walski, soccer, Montgomery Catholic

  • Made six saves to backstop the Knights to a 2-1 win at Providence Christian on March 24
