Giana Carreiro of Wallkill Valley voted Morris/Sussex Athlete of the Week for April 19-23

After four days of voting, Wallkill Valley junior second baseman Giana Carreiro has been selected as the Morris/Sussex Athlete of the Week for April 19-23.

Carreiro was 8-for-13 with a double and a triple, nine runs scored and four RBI as Wallkill Valley went 2-2 last week. She was named to the all-tournament team at Villa Walsh's Aprilfest on April 23.

Here were the other nominees:

Scott Anderson

Morris Tech senior pitcher/shortstop

Anderson combined for a no hitter against Dover, striking out nine in seven innings of a 1-0 win on April 20. He was 4-for-8 with two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored as Morris Tech went 3-0 last week.

C.J. Brunner

Wallkill Valley senior third base/pitcher

Brunner allowed six hits and one earned run and struck out four in 5⅓ innings to earn the victory as the Rangers beat Sussex Tech, 12-5, in the first round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament. At the plate, Brunner went 4-for-11 with six RBI and two runs scored as Wallkill Valley split four games.

Gwen Eilender

Madison junior midfielder

Eilender totaled six goals and seven assists, six ground balls, 15 draw controls and forced eight turnovers as the Dodgers lost to Summit and defeated Millburn and Livingston.

Hailey Errichiello

Roxbury sophomore pitcher

Errichiello scattered eight hits, struck out 26, and did not allow a run over 16 innings of Roxbury's victories against Cedar Grove and Livingston.

Logan Force

Montville sophomore outfielder

Force hit a double and a triple, scoring one run and driving in four, as Montville defeated Roxbury, 8-2, on April 21.

Jordan Greenaway

Morristown Beard senior catcher

Greenaway went 6-for-10 with six doubles and a home run and three RBI as the Crimson went 2-1 last week.

Ashley Kiernan

Chatham junior midfielder

Kiernan had 11 goals – including the overtime game-winner against two-time Tournament of Champions winner Oak Knoll – and four assists, plus nine draw controls as Chatham went 3-0 last week.

Jack Kopera

Jefferson junior pitcher

Kopera pitched a no hitter against Newton on April 18, striking out 11 over five innings of Jefferson's 10-0 victory.

Ryan Lynch

Newton senior attack

Lynch totaled eight goals and two assists in Newton's two victories this week, including the game winner with 15.8 seconds left against Voorhees on April 21.

McKenzie Minervini

Pequannock sophomore pitcher

Minervini allowed seven hits, a walk and three earned runs and struck out 16 as the Golden Panthers beat Montgomery, 8-4, on Saturday. She also batted 5-for-10 with a walk, a double, and a home run and four runs scored as Pequannock went 2-1 last week.

Juliann Mutter

Jefferson sophomore first baseman

Mutter was 11-for-15 with a double, a home run, five runs scored and five RBI as Jefferson won four games this week.

Caitlin Olensky

Montville junior pitcher

Olensky threw her third no hitter of the season, striking out 15, as Montville beat Pequannock, 5-0, on April 22. She allowed four hits and a run, striking out 17, in the Mustangs' 5-1 victory against West Morris on Saturday. At the plate, she was 4-for-6 with a homer, three runs scored and four RBI.

Shane O’Neill

Morristown senior pitcher

O'Neill allowed six hits, three walks and one earned run and struck out 12 in 6⅓ innings of the Colonials' 10-1 victory against Phillipsburg on April 20. He also doubled and scored in Morristown's 4-3 defeat of Wayne Hills on Saturday.

Thomas Schottland

Sparta first singles

Schottland went 1-1 this week, defeating Ryan Sun of Montville and losing to Chatham's Pedro Cattaruzzi – his first defeat this spring.

Alexa Shotwell

Kittatinny junior midfielder

Shotwell had 10 goals and seven assists, 12 ground balls, 25 draw controls and forced seven turnovers as Kittatinny went 2-1 last week.

Hannah Streicher

Morris Catholic junior pitcher

Streicher went 7-for-11 with two doubles and a home run, six stolen bases, four RBI and six runs scored – including the two-run homer as Morris Catholic upended Red Bank Catholic, 3-2, on Saturday. At the plate, Streicher was 2-0, allowing two earned runs, seven hits and a walk while striking out 18 in 13 innings.
