Here are the nominees for the News & Observer high school athlete of the week.

Readers can vote as often as they would like until Friday, around noon, when the poll will close.

Sofia Canoutas-Nadel, Chapel Hill Soccer: The Tigers’ sophomore had two goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal to lead Chapel Hill to a 5-2 overtime victory over East Chapel Hill, April 6.

Chapel Hill also beat Northern Durham (8-0, April 7) and Vance County (9-0, April 8) this week.

Canoutas-Nadel has seven goals and eight assists for a Chapel Hill team (8-0) that has outscored its opponents 54-4 this season.

Kalin Creech, East Wake Soccer Academy: The Eagles’ senior had a hat trick (three goals) to lead East Wake Academy to a 5-0 win at Voyager Academy, April 5.

Creech, a Meredith College commit, is off to a strong start with seven goals and one assist in the first three games for East Wake Academy (2-1) this season.

Sara Curtis, Middle Creek Soccer: The Mustangs’ senior goalkeeper had two saves to lead Middle Creek to a 1-0 win at Garner, April 5.

Curtis also had 11 saves in a 2-1 victory over Holy Springs, April 7.

Curtis has 42 saves and four shutouts for Middle Creek (4-2-1) this season.

Bryan Fang, Cary Academy Golf: The Chargers’ sophomore shot a two-under par, 32, at the Fairways’ Course at Prestonwood Country Club to lead Cary Academy to victory over Grace Christian, April 8.

Fang had shot a one-under par, 69, on the same course in a win over High Point Christian, March 30.

Fang is currently ranked No. 4 in the state with an -.008 scoring differential in four matches this season.

Helena Harrison, East Chapel Softball: The Wildcats’ senior tossed a no-hitter with nine strikeouts in four innings of work to lead her team to a 16-1 win over Chapel Hill, April 6.

East Chapel Hill also lost to Orange (17-0, April 7) and Northwood (16-6, April 8) this week.

Harrison also competed at the N.C. State Gymnastics’ Meet at the “diamond level,” April 9.

The East Chapel Hill softball team is 1-4 this season.

Alex Hong, Raleigh Charter Tennis: The Phoenix senior won both his singles and doubles’ matches to lead undefeated, Raleigh Charter (9-0) to an 8-1 win at Research Triangle Academy, ranked No. 5 in the state, April 8.

Hong was his singles’ match, 6-1, 6-1, and his doubles’ match 9-8, beating a duo that included, Sebi Rodriguez, who had never previously lost a match in his high school career.

Raleigh Charter also beat Chatham Central, 9-0 (April 5), and Southern Wake Academy, 6-0 (April 9) this week.

Hong is ranked No. 1 in the state in class 1A singles’ play this season.

Isabelle Losavio, Apex Friendship Soccer: The Patriots’ senior scored two goals and had one assist to help Apex Friendship to wins over Fuquay Varina and South Garner this week.

Losavio had one goal and one assist to help the Patriots to a 9-0 victory at South Garner, April 5.

The next day, Losavio had the game-winning goal in Apex Friendship’s 1-0 win at Fuquay Varina.

Apex Friendship (6-1) also lost to Garner, 2-1, April 7.

Losavio has four goals and one assist this season.

Ryder Massey, Heritage Golf: The Huskies’ senior shot a school-record, three-under par, 33, to lead Heritage to a three-shot victory over Wakefield at Heritage Golf Club, April 6.

Massey had five birdies in his round.

Mia Montanus, Panther Creek Softball: The Catamounts’ junior shortstop went 6-for-8 with two doubles, two home runs and nine RBI in wins over Athens Drive and Cary this week.

Montanus was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI in an 11-0 win over Cary, April 5.

She was also 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles and five RBI in an 11-5 victory at Athens Drive.

Montanus is batting .545 with three home runs, two doubles and 20 RBI for Panther Creek (6-0) this season.

Justine Pennycooke, Green Hope Golf: The Falcons’ sophomore shot a two-over part, 37, to earn medalist honors while leading Green Hope to a 22-shot victory over Athens Drive and Cary at Lochmere Golf Club, April 8.

Pennycooke shot her 37 despite starting her round with a double bogey.

Morgan Watkins, Falls Lake Academy Softball: The Firebirds’ junior went 5-for-6 with five RBI and five runs scored to lead Falls Lake Academy to wins over East Wake Academy and Franklin Academy this week.

Watkins was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and five RBI in a 24-1 win at Franklin Academy, April 8.

The next day, Watkins went 2-for-2 with two runs, while drawing a walk and being hit by a pitch in a 7-3 victory at East Wake Academy.

Watkins is hitting .438 with seven runs scored and 10 RBI for Falls Lake Academy (6-2) this season.
