Vote for the News-Star's athlete of the week (May 9- May 14), featuring 20 candidates

Voting is now open for the News-Star athlete of the week poll that includes eight athletes from the Monroe area.

Fans can vote for their favorite athlete until noon Thursday. The winner will be announced on Friday.

These athletes were chosen by their performance in the previous week.

Holden Aultman, Claiborne Christian baseball: Aultman went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs and a walk in a 11-7 win over Northside Christian.

Jacob Bareswill, Ouachita Christian baseball: Bareswill threw a complete game shutout allowing three hits, three walks and five strikeouts in a 10-0 win over St. Fredrick.

Jackson Bradley, Oak Grove baseball: Bradley went 3-for-3 with two stolen bases in a 5-3 win over LaSalle to advance to the Class 1A state championship.

Brennan Eager, West Monroe baseball: Eager threw 4.2 innings and allowed one hit, no runs and no walks in a 9-6 win over St. Amant for the LHSAA Class 5A state title. He was named most outstanding player.

Hayden Federico, West Monroe baseball: Federico went 2-for-3 with a three RBI triple in a 9-6 win over St. Amant.

2022 CHAMPS: Choudrant baseball sends coach Tony Antley into retirement with sixth state title

Drew Ferguson, West Monroe baseball: Ferguson threw 5⅓ innings and allowed one run, three hits and one strikeout in an 6-5 win over Dutchtown.

Trey Hawsey, West Monroe baseball: Hawsey had two hits including a walk-off three-run home run in an 6-5 win over Dutchtown.

Landon Hennon, Choudrant baseball: Hennen struck out eight and allowed no walks in a 12-6 win over Converse for the LHSAA Class B title. He has two singles and two RBIs .

Caden McCarthy, Oak Grove baseball: McCarthy struck out seven in a 2-1 win over Grand Lake.

Bryce McGuire, Choudrant baseball: McGuire had two singles and a RBI in a 12-6 win over Converse.

Gavyn Murphy, Choudrant baseball: Murphy had a home run, two singles and two RBIs. He was named most outstanding player in a 12-6 win over Converse.

Kaleb Procter, Oak Grove baseball: Proctor went 2-for-4 with a run scored in a 2-1 win over Grand Lake for the LHSAA Class 1A state title.

Ashlyn Rodgers, Franklin Parish track and field: Rodgers won javelin in the LHSAA 4A state meet, throwing a 123-6. She is the first female state champion in school history.

Caleb Ross, West Monroe baseball: Ross went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in a 9-6 win over St. Amant.

Luke Simmons, Oak Grove baseball: Simmons went 2-for-4 with an RBI single. Simmons was named most outstanding player in a 2-1 win over Grand Lake.

Tucker Stutts, Ouachita Christian baseball: Stutts went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in a 10-0 win over St. Fredrick.

Josh Vaughn, Claiborne Christian baseball: Vaughn went 3-for-4 with three runs, two stolen bases and a RBI in a 11-7 win over Northside Christian.

Logan Wedrall, Claiborne Christian baseball: Wedrall went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run. He threw 6⅔ innings allowing 12 hits, one walk and striking out six in a 11-7 win over Northside Christian.

Zach White, Ouachita Christian baseball: White went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in a 10-0 win over St. Fredrick.

Nick Womack, Claiborne Christian baseball: Womack went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a run, a stolen base and a walk in a 11-7 win over Northside Christian to advance to the Division V state championship.

The Athlete of the Week poll is comprised of athletes from all LHSAA-sanctioned sports excluding football. In the fall, that includes cross country, volleyball, cheerleading and swimming.
