Cedar Creek track and field's Annie Jones named News-Star's athlete of the week (May 2 - May 6)

Cedar Creek's Annie Jones is the News-Star's athlete of the week for May 2- May 6.

Jones won the javelin in 115-2 at the LHSAA Class 1A State meet. Cedar Creek girls track and field finished second in the state meet.

Jones had 10,283 of 26,210 votes in her favor. Behind her was Cade McCarthy from Oak Grove baseball with 7,549 votes.

Voting opens for the News-Star athlete of the week poll that includes athletes from the Monroe area opens Mondays.

Fans can vote for their favorite athlete until noon Thursday.

Below are the results and the nominees up against Jones, these athletes were chosen by their performance in the previous week.

Jackson Bradley, Oak Grove baseball: Bredley went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs in a 14-0 win over Gueydan.

Alyssa Dismuke, St. Frederick track and field: Dismuke won the discus of in 123-2 1 at the LHSAA Class 1A state meet.

Jayden Ellerman, Ouachita Christian track and field: Ellerman finished second in the 100m in 12.68 seconds at the LHSAA Class 1A state meet.

Bradie Eppinette, St. Fredrick Track and field: Eppinette won the 1600m, finishing in 5:33, she was also a leg of the winning 4x400 team at the LHSAA Class 1A state meet.

Spencer Foster, Oak Grove baseball: Foster went 1-for-2 with one walk, two runs and an RBI in a 14-0 win over Gueydan.

Annie Jones, Cedar Creek track and field: Jones won the javelin in 115-2 at the LHSAA Class 1A State meet.

Sarah Knight, Ouachita Christian golf: Knight finished fourth at the LHSAA Division II state championship a with an 8 over par, 152.

Caden Lester, Ouachita Christian golf: Lester finished in first at the LHSAA Division IV state championship with a 2 over par, 146.

Caden McCarthy, Oak Grove baseball: McCarthy went 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs and a stolen base in a 14-0 win over Gueydan.

James Miller, Ouachita Christian track and field: Miller threw 48-8.25 to win t shot put in at the LHSAA Class 1A state meet.

Peyton Parker, Ouachita Christian golf: Parker finished seventh at the LHSAA Division IV championship with a 17 over par, 161.

William Patrick, St. Frederick track and field: Patrick won the long jump at 22-6.5 jump at the LHSAA Class 1A state meet.

Seth Ray, Oak Grove baseball: Ray threw five innings and allowed one hit, one walk and struck out eight. He went 0-for-2 with two scored runs and walked twice in a 14-0 win over Gueydan.

Chad Strickland, Ouachita Christian track and field: Strickland cleared 12 feet, 6 inches to win the pole vault at the LHSAA Class 1A state meet.

J.D. Trettin, Neville golf: Trettin finished fourth at the LHSAA Division II state championship with 7 over par, 151.

The Athlete of the Week poll is comprised of athletes from all LHSAA-sanctioned sports excluding football. In the fall, that includes cross country, volleyball, cheerleading and swimming.
