The Tribune is asking readers to help us honor local high school students by voting to pick a student of the week.

You can VOTE HERE or find the link to vote at the bottom of this story. Voting will be open from Monday morning until noon Thursday. You can vote as many times as you want by noon Thursday.

A story about the winner and other nominees will appear on our website Friday morning and in Sunday's print edition of The Tribune.

Here are this week's nominees, submitted by school officials, in alphabetical order by school:

Addison Gates, Clay High School: Addison has bloomed into a real leader this year. This semester, she has stepped into a last-minute lead in the winter play and earned a lead role in the musical. She has worked very hard and is now one of our strongest performers.

Matt Brewster, Mishawaka High School: Matt is a very smart and capable student and shows an interest in manufacturing. Excellent hands on student, on manual machines, and hand toots. He has joined the FTC Robotics team and is the team's problem solver.

Lily Meyer, Penn High School: Lily Meyer is an active member of Penn’s academic and musical communities with over a 4.2 GPA, having taken seven AP courses, and recently being named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, one of about 16,000 students in the country. On the musical side, Lily has been playing in Penn’s top band and orchestra groups since her sophomore years, was named flute section leader and soloist as well as auditioning into IBA’s All-State Honor Band her junior year, and has participated in ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest since she started playing in sixth grade, including three Group 1 solos receiving a Gold rating. Since October 2022, she has accumulated over 100 hours volunteering for the Schmucker Middle School band program, which inspired her to pursue a future in computer science with the goal of developing free software to give young musicians feedback about their tone quality in a fun, interactive, and meaningful way.

Ezequias Calleros, South Bend Virtual School: Ezequias is ranked No. 1. He has not only taken on the challenge of Virtual High School, he has excelled both in classes and in the community. He was awarded volunteer of the year for the Boys and Girls Club of St. Joesph County. He started a tax firm at the age of 15, and he won a full scholarship for a Notre Dame Pre College course. Ezequias is currently the director of relations and marketing for a nonprofit, American Dream Projects. He plans to attend Bethel University and major in theology. Ezequias is an outstanding example of his generation. The words that come to mind are bold, passionate, kind, loving, and energetic.
