Ryan Sabot voted North Jersey Boys Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 26-31

After four days of voting, Demarest senior guard Ryan Sabot has been selected as the North Jersey Boys Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 26-31.

Sabot has helped make the Norsemen (5-1) one of North Jersey’s surprise teams. He averaged 22.0 points in three games at the Herb Cohen tournament at Wood-Ridge. He had 29 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists in a 62-34 win over Wood-Ridge.

Here were the other nominees:

Nicky Crane

Ridgewood senior swingman

Crane led the Maroons (4-0) to wins over Glen Rock, 45-42, and St. Joseph, 47-39, at the St. Joseph Holiday Classic while holding the opposing team’s top scorer to single digits. He scored 10 against Glen Rock, 15 against St. Joseph, and averages 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Asim Jones

Paterson Charter senior guard

Jones paced the Lions (5-0) to wins over Paramus Catholic, 77-45, and DePaul, 60-50, at their holiday tournament. He had 22 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals against Paramus Catholic. He had 22 points, four steals, four assists and three boards against DePaul.

David Mager

Dwight-Englewood senior guard

Mager led the Bulldogs (3-0) to wins over St. Joseph and Glen Rock at the St. Joseph Holiday Classic and surpassed 1,000 career points. He had 25 points and seven rebounds in a 65-57 win over St. Joseph. He had 40 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals against Glen Rock.

Evan Meberg

Bogota senior forward

Meberg has scored more than 30 points in each game for the Bucs (1-2) and averages 35.0 per game. He scored 35 in a 74-53 loss to Old Tappan at the pandemic-shortened Garfield holiday tournament. He hit a quartet of three-pointers, was 11-for-14 from the line, and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Patrick Rogers

Rutherford senior swingman

Rogers carried the Bulldogs (6-0) to three wins and the title at the Herb Cohen holiday tournament at Wood-Ridge. He averaged 21.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals. He had 21 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three steals in the 82-57 title win over Waldwick.

Logan Wejnert

Waldwick senior guard

Wejnert guided the Warriors (4-2) to wins over Wood-Ridge and Mahwah before a loss to Rutherford in the finals of the Herb Cohen holiday tournament at Wood-Ridge. He had three-game averages of 32.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.7 assists. He surpassed 1,100 career points.

Brian Whitney

Passaic Valley senior swingman

Whitney had three-game averages of 27.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.0 assists for the Hornets (2-3) at the Jack Reilly Tournament at Fort Lee. He had 38 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists in a 62-44 victory over Bergenfield in the opener.
