Carlos Bermudez voted Boys Track and Field Performer of the Week for April 3-9

After four days of voting, Ridgewood senior Carlos Bermudez was selected as the North Jersey Boys Track and Field Performer of the Week for April 3-9.

He won the shot and discus at the Ridgewood-Ramapo dual meet on Monday, extending his school record in the latter event to 181-5. He then flew across the country to the prestigious Arcadia Invitational and finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 183-0, becoming the ninth best performer in Bergen County history.

Here were the other nominees:

Liam Paneque

Demarest sophomore

He opened his sophomore spring the way he finished his outstanding winter season, winning the long and high jumps in a dual meet win over Bergenfield and then coming within an inch of his personal best in the long jump and taking the early state lead of 22-10 by winning the Hasbrouck Heights Penn Relays Field Event Qualifier.

Edwin Sanjay

Sanjay continues the great New Milford tradition of talented sprinters and started his season by sweeping the 100, 200 and 400 in a double dual meet against Emerson and Waldwick, all with personal bests.

Benji Shue

Bergen Catholic sophomore

After a busy wrestling season, Shue had a busy first week, winning both the shot and discus in a dual meet win over Don Bosco, then took the same two events at the Hasbrouck Heights Field Qualifier before flying to California and winning the Arcadia Invitational shot put with a huge personal best of 63-5 1/2, seventh in Bergen history. He also took third in the discus with a solid 187-2 throw.
