Kierstyn Klinger voted North Jersey Girls Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 23-29

After four days of voting, Leonia senior guard Kierstyn Klingner was selected as the North Jersey Girls Basketball Player of the Week.

The Lions qualified for Bergen County Tournament play for the first time since 2009 with Klingner leading the way. She made 12 three-pointers in four games and averaged 13.0 points, topping out at 20 (with 6 threes, 8 rebounds and 4 steals) in a win over Wallington.

Here were the other nominees:

Marissa LaVerghetta

Mahwah junior guard

LaVerghetta returned from injury to help the Thunderbirds end a four-game slide with a flourish. In Bergen County Tournament upsets of Glen Rock and Teaneck, she totaled 18 points, 9 steals, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and made the go-ahead free throws in the latter game.

Nadia Otuyelu

Ridgefield Park freshman forward

Otuyelu tied the Scarlets’ single-game record with 19 rebounds in Thursday’s Bergen Invitational Tournament win over Leonia, then added 13 in Sunday’s Round of 16 at Demarest. In four games, she averaged 12.3 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks and made 17-of-19 free throws (89%).

Na’Tori Postell

Passaic Charter senior guard

Postell surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career when she scored 31 in a Jan. 23 game against Snyder (Jersey City). In three wins for the 12-4 Panthers, she averaged 23.7 points and made 7 three-pointers, and she entered the week with 1,045 points in four varsity seasons.

Perla Reyes

Kennedy sophomore guard

Reyes and her team caught fire last week, as she drained 13 three-pointers in a two-game span, helping the 8-8 Knights run their win streak to four. She netted a career-best 23 points (7 threes) in a county win over Manchester and 20 points (6 threes) against Lawrenceville.

Allie Shenloogian

Park Ridge sophomore guard

In three games this week, Shenloogian averaged 20.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals as the Owls began county play. Following a loss to Dwight-Englewood in the championship bracket, she erupted for 29 points in a win over Becton that advanced her team in the BIT.

Siena Shuster

Wayne Hills junior forward

Shuster continues to average a double-double (16.9 points, 11.7 rebounds) for a 15-1 team that earned the No. 2 seed in the Passaic tournament. She put up 17 and 16 in a buzzer-beating comeback win over Jefferson and averaged 20.0 points and 13.3 rebounds in three games.

Anna Taufield

Tenafly senior guard

Tigers coach Devin Feeney called Taufield the “team MVP” of their Bergen County Round of 16 overtime win against River Dell, in which she had 24 points and 5 threes. She added 7 assists and 6 steals, and for the week, she averaged 14.0 points and 7.7 assists in three games.
