Kayla DePol selected as North Jersey Girls Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 17-23
After four days of voting, River Dell's Kayla DePol has been selected as the North Jersey Girls Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 17-23.
The Hawks took control of the Big North Patriot Division with Saturday’s 41-28 win at Westwood, in which DePol had 9 points, 14 rebounds and 9 steals. She also scored 13 points in a victory against Cliffside Park.
Here were the other nominees:
Rachel Chandler
West Milford senior guard
Chandler set two Highlander records in Thursday’s win at Clifton: The single-game (eight) and career (140) marks for three-pointers made. She had a 16.3 scoring average for the week, as the team’s win streak hit four.
Mikaela Lamar
Weehawken junior guard
Lamar helped the Indians rebound from a tough loss to Immaculate Conception with a career-high 20 points in a win over Dickinson. She averaged 13.3 points and 3.7 steals in three games, including 7 steals at Wallington.
Ella Madden
Park Ridge senior forward
The Owls have won five straight with Madden upping her career point total to 830. In three wins last week, she averaged 21.6 points and 17.6 rebounds with a dominant effort at Waldwick (28 points, 24 rebounds, 5 blocks).
Sofia Neary
Wayne Valley senior forward
Neary notched a season-high 23 points and added 10 boards in a 60-59 win at Morris County power Jefferson Township on Saturday. She averaged 14.3 points and 12.3 rebounds (17 against Fair Lawn) during a 3-0 week.
Madison Schiller
Ramapo senior guard
The Colgate commit helped the Raiders improve to 10-0 and score a 52-33 win over No. 2-ranked IHA with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. In two games, she averaged 22.5 points, 9 rebounds and 5.5 assists.
Katie Weber
Glen Rock senior forward
Weber averaged 14.3 points in three wins, which included a sweep of NJIC Colonial Division rival Elmwood Park. She had 13 in the first game against the Crusaders and 23 in the second, adding a pair of 3-pointers.
