After four days of voting, Hawthorne junior guard Sabrina DiFilippo has been selected as the North Jersey Girls Basketball Player of the Week.
During the Bears’ 2-1 start to the season, DiFilippo was a force at both ends of the floor, averaging 19.3 points and 7.0 steals. She made nine steals in an opening win against Eastern Christian and followed up with 23 points at Pompton Lakes.
Here were the other nominees:
Passaic Charter junior guard
In the Panthers' season-opening win over Bergen Charter, Hernandez-Garcia recorded a rare quadruple-double: 19 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 14 steals. She averaged 13.5 points in her team’s first two games.
Ramapo senior guard
The Colgate commit led the Raiders to the Westwood Holiday Tournament title, averaging 22.5 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks in wins over Demarest and Paramus Catholic. She averaged 21 points during a 4-0 start.
Wayne Hills junior guard
The Patriots won all three of their games in the Bergenfield Holiday Classic to improve to 5-0, and Tighe capped the run with an 18-point outing that included four 3-pointers against the host Bears. She averaged 18.7 points for the event.
St. Mary senior forward
Villar scored 30 points during the Gaels’ 3-0 start, culminating with a double-double of 19 points and 19 rebounds in a victory against defending division champ Wood-Ridge. In three games, she totaled 29 rebounds, six steals and five blocks.
