Results: North Jersey Hockey '3 Stars' of the Week from county tournament action

After three days of voting, Passaic Tech freshman Angelo LaCognata, St. Joseph senior Garrett Kata and Mahwah senior Harrison Haber have been selected as the North Jersey Hockey '3 Stars' of the Week.

Second on the team in goals and points, LaCognata had his first multi-goal game of his high school career in Monday's Passaic County semifinal against Lakeland. LaCognata scored twice in 51 seconds on a power play following a major penalty. The two goals gave the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead in the third period, holding on for a 3-2 win and a berth in the county final on Thursday.

Kata ended a back and forth affair between Glen Rock and St. Joseph in the county quarterfinals on Friday. Following a faceoff during overtime, Kata's shot on net found a way over the shoulder of the goaltender and in. Kata's fourth goal of the season advanced the Green Knights to the county semifinals. Kata scored twice in a loss to Don Bosco in Monday's semifnals at the Ice Vault.

Haber was solid in net for the Thunderbirds when they needed him the most. Haber turned in his best performance of the season with 26 saves as Mahwah stunned Bergen Catholic, 2-1, in the Bergen County quarterfinals on Friday. Haber also stopped 24 shots against Northern Highlands in defeat during Monday's county semifinals.

Here were the other nominees:

Jurj Dubas

Clifton senior

The Mustangs have had a difficult season on the ice, but Dubas keeps them in many matchups with his skill in the net. Dubas stopped 50 shots in a shutout loss to West Milford/Pequannock in the Passaic County quarterfinals on Friday. Two days later against the same West Milford club, Dubas turned away 67 shots in another loss to their county foe. In 12 starts this season, Dubas has at least 32 saves in 10 of them.

Jay Fairchild

Glen Rock junior

In what might have been the game of the tournament in Bergen County, Fairchild's effort in net kept the Panthers in it against a tough St. Joseph squad. Despite being on the losing end in a 5-4 overtime defeat, Fairchild had a season-high 41 saves on the night, including a number of key saves in the third period to keep Glen Rock close before tying it in the final minutes of regulation.

Will Fuller

Northern Highlands senior

Fuller had a point in three of the four games this season for the Bergen County tournament finalists. Fuller scored as the Highlanders tied Cranford, 2-2, on Jan. 10, following up with a goal and an assist in a 6-0 win over Ramsey on Thursday. In Monday's tournament semifinal, had an assist in all three periods to push Northern Highlands to the finals with a 5-1 win over Mahwah.

Daniel Moor

Northern Highlands sophomore

Moor stays solid in goal for the Highlanders, notching three wins this week that include a pair of Bergen County tournament victories. Moor stopped all 13 shots faced in a 6-0 win over Ramsey on Thursday in a regular season matchup. Moor had 27 saves on 28 shots to silence Ramapo, 4-1, a day later in the county quarterfinals. On Monday, 13 saves was all that were needed by Moor in a 5-1 win over Mahwah in the county semifinals.

Ty Oller

Don Bosco junior

Oller's week for the Ironmen showed why the junior leads the team in assists and points this season, combining for 11 total points across four games this week. Oller had a goal and an assist in a 6-1 win over Seton Hall Prep on Jan. 10. A goal and four assists for Oller set the tone in an 11-1 win over Paramus Catholic in Friday's Bergen County quarterfinals. Oller scored Sunday in Don Bosco's 4-2 win over Gloucester Catholic. On Monday, Oller had two goals and an assist in a 7-3 win over St. Joseph in the county semifinals.

Joey Riina

Wayne senior

The Knights had a first round bye in the Passaic County tournament and after an effort from Riina on Monday, Wayne is bound for the tournament final later this week. Riina's hat trick capped off a great offensive game for the team in a 7-0 win over West Milford/Pequannock in the county tournament semifinals. Riina's first goal late in the first period cemented a 4-0 start for the Knights. Riina also scored a power play goal in the second and capped off the Wayne scoring with a third period tally.

Charlie Wogisch

Lakeland junior

Wogisch continues to have a breakout junior season for the Lancers, who reached the Passaic County tournament semifinals. Wogisch had four goals and two assists in a 10-0 win in two periods against Passaic Valley/Cedar Grove in Friday's quarterfinal tournament action. Wogisch also scored Monday as Lakeland fell, 3-2, to Passaic Tech in the county semifinals. Wogisch leads Lakeland with 19 goals this season and earned his 50th career point with Monday's goal.
