Results: North Jersey Hockey Stars of the Week for Feb. 13-19

After four days of voting, Lakeland/Hawthorne/Waldwick senior Charlie Wogish and Montville junior Matthew Trifari were selected as North Jersey Hockey Stars of the Week.

Wogisch ended up with a hat trick in Lakeland's Big North Silver Cup final win, including a goal eight seconds into the third period to begin the wild sequence. A late goal by Wogisch proved important as it was the difference to help the Lancers hold on against Clifton/Passaic Valley/Cedar Grove.

Trifari took over at times in the Charette Cup final, scoring a natural hat trick during the second period to grow a big lead for the Mustangs. Trifari ended the night with five goals as Montville defeated Newton/Lenape Valley, 8-3, in the cup final. It's the first cup title for Montville since 2018.

Here were the other nominees:

Will Brown

Northern Highlands senior

Brown's heroics this week helped the Highlanders repeat as Big North Gold Cup champions by fending off a strong challenge by Ramapo. Brown scored twice and assisted on the other two Northern Highlands goals in a 4-3 win in the final. Brown's goal with 3:17 to go tied the game at 3-3 and his primary assist to JT Gandara with 1:46 left proved to be the game-winner.

Frank Diloreto

Mount Olive/Hopatcong/Hackettstown senior

The first cup title since the formation of the tri-op was made possible, thanks to Diloreto and his hat trick in the Halvorsen Cup final. Diloreto's three goals were more than enough in a 5-1 win over KJS United. It's the first cup win for MoHoHa since the 2014 Haas Cup, prior to Hackettstown's addition to the program.

Michael Ferry

West Morris junior

Ferry was the hero in the Haas Cup tournament final. In a bracket in which every single game went to overtime, it was Ferry who had the game-winner in the tournament final, lifting the Wolfpack over Park Regional, 3-2. It's the second straight season West Morris hoists the Haas Cup.

Dominic Locriccio

West Orange sophomore

A cup drought of nearly two decades is over for West Orange after winning the McMullen Cup this past week. It was Locriccio's late tally that snapped a 2-2 tie, giving the Mountaineers a 3-2 win over Scotch Plains-Fanwood. It was the 17th goal of the season for Locriccio and the third time this season one of his goals proved to be the game-winner.

Matt Nacinavich

Chatham sophomore

The most important goal for Chatham hockey in decades came off Nacinavich's stick this week. After scoring the first goal in the Mennen Cup final against Randolph, the two teams went to overtime to decide who would reign supreme. Nacinavich had the heroics with his second goal of the game, giving Chatham its first cup since Chatham Borough and Chatham Township high schools combined in 1988.

Trip Pendy

Delbarton senior

The oldest of the Pendy duo, Trip added more hardware to the Green Wave with a big game in the Gordon Cup final. Pendy had two goals and an assist in a 4-2 win over Christian Brothers in the final. Pendy scored 29 seconds into the game to give Delbarton a lead they would never lose. It's the first Gordon Cup for the Green Wave since the 2017-18 season.

Nicholas Sykora

Montclair Kimberley sophomore

The son of former Devils great Petr Sykora, Nicholas won a cup of his own this week, helping MKA win the Kelly Cup with a 6-1 victory over Oratory in the final. Sykora had a power-play goal, as well as a shorthanded goal in the second period, to grow the lead for the Cougars. Sykora leads MKA with 33 goals this season.
