Results: North Jersey Hockey '3 Stars' of the Week for Jan. 18-23

After four days of voting, Wayne senior Luke Hulbert, Paramus Catholic junior Nathan Klak and Ridgewood freshman Jack Scali have been selected as the North Jersey Hockey '3 Stars' of the Week for Jan. 18-23.

Hulbert kept the Knights' offense rolling with a goal and four assists in Wayne's 7-2 win over Passaic Tech in Thursday's Passaic County tournament final. A day after guiding Wayne to their first county title since 2017, Hulbert had two assists in a 3-3 tie against Ramsey. Hulbert leads all Wayne skaters this season in goals (16) and points (44).

Klak scored twice and added an assist as the Paladins pushed past Passaic Valley/Cedar Grove, 7-4, on Sunday. It is the fifth different multi-goal game of the season for Klak, who leads Paramus Catholic this season in goals (15) and points (25).

The Maroons leaned upon their freshman goalie this week and he delivered with his first three varsity wins. Scali stopped all 20 shots faced in a shutout win over Paramus Catholic for his first varsity win. Scali followed it up with 33 saves in a 4-1 win over Middletown South on Friday and 11 saves in a 5-1 win over Ramsey on Saturday.

Here were the other nominees:

John Dunphey

Ridgewood senior

Dunphey has a career high in goals in his senior season thanks to a four-goal week for the Maroons. Dunphey scored twice, including the 60th goal of his high school career, during a 5-0 win over Paramus Catholic on Wednesday. Dunphey had a goal and two assists in a 4-1 win over Middletown South on Friday, followed by another goal and assist in a 5-1 win over Ramsey on Saturday.

Carson Kopff

Ridgewood junior

Kopff led the Maroons offense to three key victories this week at home. Kopff scored twice in a win over Paramus Catholic on Wednesday and scored again in a vicrtory over Middletown South on Friday. Kopff's hat trick guided Ridgewood to a 5-1 win over Ramsey on Saturday. Kopff has at least one goal in nine of Ridgewood's last 11 games.

Danny Mauriber

Ramapo junior

Mauriber scored four times in a 9-2 win over Indian Hills on Friday, including two shorthanded goals. None of Mauriber's four goals came at even strength with his first goal coming in a first period penalty shot, followed by a power play goal minutes later. Mauriber scored in the second period while Ramapo was down a man and the junior repeated that with his fourth goal early in the third period.

Nick Milmore

Don Bosco senior

Milmore scored twice and added an assist as Don Bosco powered past Northern Highlands, 5-2, in Thursday's Bergen County tournament final. Milmore assisted on Giovanni Russo's shorthanded goal, the first of four shorthanded goals by the Ironmen in the period. Milmore's shorthanded goal later in the period gave Don Bosco a 4-2 lead.

Aidan Patton

Ramapo junior

Patton had a six-point game in a big offensive output for the Raiders, a 9-2 win over Indian Hills on Friday. Patton assisted on Jake Rosolanko's first period goal to tie the game at one, then scored twice in the second period 53 seconds apart. Patton assisted on both of Danny Mauriber's shorthanded goals later in the game before capping the Ramapo scoring with his own shorthanded goal in the third period.

Johnny Russenberger

Mahwah junior

Russenberger scored a hat trick for the Thunderbirds in a 5-1 win over Lakeland on Friday night. Russenberger scored the first two goals of the night for Mahwah to take a 2-0 lead after the first period. Russenberger then finished the Mahwah scoring for the night in the second period for his seventh goal of the season.

Josh Shpungin

Wayne junior

Spungin scored twice and had three assists as Wayne won their first Passaic County title since 2017, a 7-2 win over Passaic Tech in Thursday's county tournament final. Spungin added two assists a day later in a 3-3 tie against Ramsey. Spungin is tied for second on the Knights in points this season with 34.
