Arancha Antunes voted North Jersey Soccer Player of the Week for Nov. 1-6
After four days of voting, North Arlington junior midfielder Arancha Antunes has been selected as the North Jersey Soccer Player of the Week for Nov. 1-6.
Antunes picked up an overtime goal on Friday, giving the Vikings a 1-0 win over Secaucus and a spot in the North 2, Group 1 semifinal. Currently on an eight-game point streak, Antunes has 18 goals and 23 assists on the season.
Here were the other nominees:
Randy Alburez
Cliffside Park junior midfielder
Alburez scored in overtime to lift the Red Raiders past Millburn, 2-1, in the North 2, Group 3 quarterfinals. He chipped in another goal in the first round against Somerville.
Shane Feder
Pascack Valley junior forward
Feder sparked the No. 12 seeded Panthers with two goals in two state tournament games, including the overtime winner against Garfield in the opening round. The Panthers became the only Bergen boys team to advance to the semifinals as a double-digit seed.
Enrique Mutsoli
Lyndhurst senior forward
The Golden Bears all-time scoring leader picked up both goals in a 2-1 quarterfinal win over Lodi on Thursday. Mutsoli also holds the school single-season record with 39 goals this fall.
Ava Andicoechea
Northern Highlands freshman midfielder
The Highlander rookie was the overtime hero when the eighth seed shocked No. 1 Ramapo, 1-0, on Friday in the North 1, Group 3 quarterfinals. Her first career goal turned the tables on the Raiders, who outscored their rivals by a 10-0 total in two previous meetings this season.
Shannon Harnett
Lakeland junior goalie
Harnett recorded back-to-back shutouts last week by stopping all 23 shots. She made 15 saves on Friday when the No. 7 seed Lancers upset No. 2 River Dell, 4-0, in North 1, Group 2.
