Luis Portillo voted North Jersey Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 17-23

After four days of voting, Kennedy senior forward Luis Portillo has been selected as the North Jersey Soccer Player of the Week.

Portillo headed home one of the most important goals in Kennedy history, giving his team a stunning 1-0 overtime win over two-time defending champion Clifton in the Passaic County final. It's the second PCT crown for the Paterson school and the first since 1996.

Here were the other nominees:

Poppie Bimson

Rutherford sophomore midfielder

The Bulldogs centermid broke out in a big way last week by tallying 11 goals and two assists in four wins. She recorded the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Saddle Brook after a run of three straight hat tricks (or more).

Alexis Kochan

DePaul freshman forward

Kochan scored the winner in the 15th minute on Saturday to hand DePaul its third Passaic County title and the first since 2019. She leads all Spartans with 16 goals this season.

Jessica Kaye

Ridgewood junior forward

Kaye gave the Maroons their second straight Bergen County title on Saturday by chipping in the go-ahead goal with under three minutes left in a 3-2 victory over IHA. The Miami commit picked up a goal and three assists against Paramus earlier in the week.

Andrew Dunne

Demarest senior forward

Dunne knocked off a pair of Top 10 opponents to vault the Norsemen to first place in the competitive Big North National. He accounted for all the offense against Old Tappan with two goals and two assists and added two more goals in a 3-0 triumph over Tenafly.

Cole Duschang

Ramapo senior defender

Duschang and the Raiders defense captured their second straight Bergen County title on Saturday by allowing only three shots on goal in a shutout. The Ramapo stopper also showed his offense capability on Thursday by firing in two goals in a 2-1 win over Hackensack.
