Dylan Ross of Paramus Catholic voted North Jersey Wrestler of the Week for Jan. 16-22
After four days of voting, Paramus Catholic sophomore Dylan Ross has been selected as the North Jersey Wrestler of the Week for Jan. 16-22.
The Paladins 113-pounder did not allow a single point in four straight wins at the Bergen County Tournament. Ross completed his first title run by scoring a 15-0 technical fall over Lodi's Malik Asfour in the final.
Here were the other nominees:
Joe Abill
Clifton junior
Abill pinned Eastside's Arthur Edmonds in 4:28 in the Passaic County heavyweight final to avenge one of his only two losses. He advanced to the final by downing state qualifier Robby Chetirkin, 4-0, in the semis.
Alex Almeyda
St. Joseph senior
The 138-pound wrestler won his first Bergen County title on Saturday by beating Jake Wacha (Demarest), 24-9, in 5:33. The technical fall made Alex and Donny Almeyda the first brother tandem to win BCCA titles in the same year since 1998.
Taylor Peterson
Garfield junior
Peterson pinned her way to gold last Sunday to earn Most Outstanding Wrestler honors at the BCWCA tournament. In the 145-pound final, she knocked off state bronze medalist Alexa Firestone of Kingsway in 3:35.
Aidan Wallace
Bergen Catholic junior
Wallace reversed Joe Manno (St. Joseph) late in an ultimate tiebreak to complete a 3-1 win in 126-pound BCCA final. The Mahwah native was named the Most Outstanding Lower-Weight after beating a fellow state medalist.
Theresa Zeppetelli
Bogota/Ridgefield Park junior
Zeppetti captured the BCWCA title at 107 by pinning Litzy Argueta (Lakewood) in 27 seconds. All three of her tournament wins came by fall.
