Ben Garcia voted North Jersey Wrestler of the Week for Feb. 20-26

After four days of voting, Don Bosco junior Ben Garcia was selected as the North Jersey Wrestler of the Week.

The third-seeded Garcia claimed the Region 1 title at 150 pounds with a 5-0 upset over No. 1 Frank DiBella of St. Joseph. Garcia was one of two Don Bosco champions along with Santino Rodriguez.

Here were the other nominees:

Caroline Biegel

Lakeland sophomore

Biegel became the first Passaic County girls wrestler to reach a state final after back-to-back upsets on Sunday as the eighth seed. In the semis, she beat Vernon's Allison Brandt, 7-5, in sudden victory to avenge a region loss.

Jenna Filieri

Immaculate Conception senior

The defending state champion will head back to the final at 152 after rolling through the early rounds in Phillipsburg. She had pins in 3:50 and 1:27 in her two matches Sunday.

Zach Ballante

Paramus Catholic sophomore

Ballante defeated No. 1 seed and three-time state medalist Aidan Wallace (Bergen Catholic), 6-5, in the Region 2 final at 157. It was redemption for Wallace's last-bout, tiebreak win in the dual.

Ryan Ford

Bergen Catholic junior

The 144-pounder took home a Region 2 title on Saturday by knocking off Essex County champion Anthony Barra (West Essex) in a 22-4 technical fall. Ford pinned his opponent in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.

Jim Mullen

St. Joseph senior

The Green Knights' heavyweight spent less time on the mat than any other champion at Region 1 with three pins in a combined 56 seconds. Mullen picked up his third region title on a 28-second fall over High Point's Arik Hums.
