Kamila Castro voted North Jersey Wrestler of the Week for Jan. 15-22

After four days of voting, Ridgewood sophomore Kamila Castro has been selected as the North Jersey Wrestler of the Week.

Castro knocked off Immaculate Conception state champion Jenna Filieri in the BCWCA semis on Sunday on the way to the 152-pound title. She picked up a 14-7 decision over Paramus' Emma Mees in the final.

Here were the other nominees:

Joseph Abill

Clifton senior

Abill collected his second straight Passaic County title on Saturday with pins in five, seven and 34 seconds. He earned his 100th career win in the semifinal while helping the Mustangs bring home their first county championship since 1986.

Ryan Burton

St. Joseph sophomore

Burton won the Bergen County title on Sunday at 165, pinning Paramus Catholic state sixth Daniel Rella to avenge a dual meet loss from last week. He was one of a tournament-record eight champions for the Green Knights.

Taylor Peterson

Garfield senior

Peterson secured her second straight BCWCA title on Sunday by pinning Gianna Puzycki (Bayonne) in 1:41. She won all three matches at 138 by fall in the first period.

Devin Ryan

New Milford sophomore

Ryan was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Bergen County tournament after becoming his program's first champion since John Burger in 2016. The top seed won by injury default in the 113-pound final.
